So I discovered the hidden -dedication parameter, and encoded a short message into block 86043 which I mined. I've verified the message is in the blockchain by grepping through the primecoin blockchain files on a few other machines. Is there any proper way to view these messages (such as to check for more in other blocks)? Or do I need to build my own blockchain parser for this?
(EDIT: I tried the linux strings utility. I only see the original block's message, and my own's message. Guess no one else has done this.)
(EDIT2: I tried the strings utility on Bitcoin's blockchain. Doesn't look like stuffing information into a blockchain is that unique of a prank, drat.)
Hahaha this is great, there's a couple there now, maybe a couple people picked up on your advice: Sunny King - dedicated to Satoshi Nakamoto and all who have fought for the freedom of mankind Mined by XertroV the dopefish lives SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE

What happened? I put messages inside two of the blocks I mined. Sunny King's primecoin genesis block and a block by XertoV also had messages in them. You can see them in the blockchain by running "strings -n 16 ~/.primecoin/blocks/blk00000.dat" on a Linux machine for example. (You also get a few lines of gibberish, which I'm not sure if they are intentional.) I don't think there currently exists an easy way to inspect the messages further, such as to find what block they're in.

There appears to be spamming activity on freenode primecoin channel. Since I am not active there Transisto volunteers to moderate the channel.
So here I vouch for Transisto, mikaelh_, mtrlt as trusted members of the community and qualifies as moderators for the freenode #primecoin channel.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's time to throw in the towel on Primecoin. Been mining it 24/7 since the 7/7/2013 opening kickoff on my i7-2600. Did great at the start, mining over 300 Primecoins. Most was in the first few days when the difficulty was much less. But despite trying all the latest CPU Primecoin miner enhancements and running my CPU non-stop, I haven't found a block since the morning of 18 July. That was over ten days ago. Is this typical? I'm just wondering if the electricity costs are even worth it anymore. I figure in this area it's about $0.28 (USD) per day to run the i7 CPU non-stop. Not really all that much, but if it's going to be weeks and weeks between blocks, it just may not make sense to keep trying. On the other hand if I do ever find another block, I'll probably break down with tears of shock and happiness.

For me the rewards seem to hit pretty randomly. Sometimes I get 2-3 in on day and sometimes I got days with no blocks at all. Running around 3500 pps. I have another running around 1200 pps has found 2 blocks in about 1.5 weeks.

I stopped about 5 days ago after I went 3 days without a block. It's funny because my last block was with a conroe core 2 duo. I had about 14 cores on a few different machines mining away, but since then I've switched to QRK.

Reading this makes me feel even worse. I keep reading that pps isn't a real good indicator. That must be true because my CPU runs about 4400 pps and and for 10+ days....nothing.

I hadn't found anything since 20 July until one block showed up on 27, which probably will keep me hooked for another 1-2 weeks.

@zax983
As i see you are mining with just one core and you wana smothing extra??
i3 has 2 cores with 2 treads so if you tell it to use 2 treads just one core will be in use and you would need 15-30 days to find a block as it is now!

Is there another way to see if a block has been found other than to listtransactions?
Does something show up in the log file?

I don't know what shows up in the logfile, but it's definitely logged. You could use listaccounts or getbalance.

I don't know what shows up in the logfile, but it's definitely logged. You could use listaccounts or getbalance. I was planning to add the log to my swatch config and alert me if something was found... I am thinking that if the code is based off bitcoin et al, then the logged entry is likely to be similar?

You could watch for 'Probable prime chain found' in debug.log, that means you mined a block on your node.
