Looking for the communities thoughts on this thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1399824.0

The user decides to bid on his own auction as he didn't like the price it was going for.. what are your thoughts of this behavior?  I understand using a reserve or just starting from your minimum sell price..

what do you lot think?

That is Quickseller type shady, immoral and wrong.

Since he has a legendary account with positive trust, I am willing to give him time to accept the last bid, or he is absolutely untrustworthy.

The item has been allegedly sold to someone in the meantime. However, the item was not won by the last bidder..

My questions for Anduck would be:
Do you believe the behavior that was exhibited on this auction was ok to do, even if done today?
Do you believe it is ok for an auctioneer to shill bid with an unknown alt account on their own auction?

Based on Anduck's feedback left to TMAN, it implies he is ok with a hidden non-disclosed reserve without stating there is a reserve at all... which just doesn't make sense to me. You either have a reserve or you do not. Disclosing the amount may be debatable, but if you do not specify there is a reserve, it is an absolute auction, and should go to the highest bidder. It seems asinine to think you, yourself, can be the highest bidder in this type of auction.

Don't be obsessed with your desires. The Zen philosopher Basho once wrote, 'A flute with no holes, is not a flute... and a donut with no hole, is a Danish.' He was a funny guy.

you got it.. he is  an arse..  he tried to justify it by saying an auctioneer can add his own bids to get the price to the reserve.....  the bloke is on something buddy.. and his retaliatory feedback to me is just childish.

Shady stuff. He could have obviously put out a reserve if he wasn't happy with the prices that he was getting on his auction, or even stated in the OP to begin with to warn people that he was going to self-bid on the auction.

Just jumping out of the blue and bidding for his own auction himself is not acceptable, and ruins the entire auction.

As ibminer said, even having a hashed reserve would make a lot more sense than doing this.

Vod I left the negative recently as I only saw what happened recently after Anduck was a dickhead off forum.. he then retaliated with a negative back to me.  rather shameful for someone who has been about these parts for 6 years

It's shady for sure, and Anduck leaving you a neg is unwarranted for sure, but it's a year old now... Think it's too late. Who did win the auction anyways?

Quite a ton of bullshit around. TMAN, you really love to stir this, right?

First of all, it's not against Bitcointalk auction rules for auctioneer to bid on the auctioned item. The rules are same for all, no matter who bids.

However, I do acknowledge that having a hidden reserve price should be stated as it makes the auction more transparent. As I've said, I will do that in the future if I have auctions here. At least where I live, it's quite common for the auctioneer to bid on the auctioned items. The auction rules are same for all.

I used my own account when I bid on the auction I held. Also, this was a single auction. I do not consider auctioneer bidding on the auction as unfair or wrong, but people have different opinions.

Also, I informed TMAN that I will leave him a negative rating. Immediately after this he went and negatively rated me so he could now call my rating retaliatory.

After a while, I got several PMs regarding this. One of them was from Vod who had left me a neutral rating still calling me a scammer. I rated him negatively after this, because I consider people who call me a scammer as untrustworthy. You can see this as retaliatory, but in reality it's simply stating how much I trust Vod. I can't find myself trusting someone who calls me a scammer, just like that.

Quote
Do you believe the behavior that was exhibited on this auction was ok to do, even if done today?
It would not be against forum rules, but I've since learned that it's uncommon in bitcointalk auctions to do so, so I would simply state that there is hidden reserve price. Probably I would present a sha256 of it to further enhance transparency.

No.

Also,
Why I were to negatively rate TMAN in the first place? This all began when a while back he started talking bullshit about me behind my back and afterwards publicly too. It was over some tipping or something like that. Back then I told him I consider such activity as activity of an untrustworthy person. He wanted me to not negatively rate him, so in the end I did not rate him. It wasn't that big deal after all.

Later on we rehashed this as the air was obviously not clear. I told him I will leave him a negative rating now, getting us here. This auction thing has little to do with this but works (apparently) as a fine tool for him. Let's see what else he will find. Smiley

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that Vod and me have had some problems earlier. I can see that he's taking a very strict stance here and the reason is obvious. That is childs game. I find him quite untrustworthy for this alone.

What are your thoughts on the way he handled the auction Lauda?
That's definitely not something I'd agree with. Either it has a reserve or it doesn't. Self bidding via shills, or even directly via the main account is not acceptable. I wonder how I don't remember seeing this when it happened.

also what do you think about the retaliatory negative he left me?
Given how many retaliatory ratings I have, my stance is clear on those. Unless warranted, they are also a no-no.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that Vod and me have had some problems earlier. I can see that he's taking a very strict stance here and the reason is obvious. That is childs game. I find him quite untrustworthy for this alone.
Uhm, really? I thought he was being lenient up until this escalated.

Anduck I never spoke about the tipping issue behind your back and I wasn't aware of the auction issue when it happened.. it was only after our public spat that I was made aware.. once I was made aware I thought a negative was needed as others need to be aware of your conduct.

for such a well known Dev you really act like a prized penis..  you still argued that your handling of the auction is fine as real world auctioneers do it

At least he was being transparent about it. Although one could argue this is effectively backing out of his auction commitments.

At the very least, this will likely cause some people to not want to bid on his future auctions.
