They're just cleaning the leaves out of the pools.

All my rigs stopped hashing at 3:37AM Eastern time.  It wasn't until well after 4:00AM the "maintenance banner" went up on their front page.  I got the rigs switched over to mph for now.

It has now been over 6 hours, so this is way past a normal maintenance window.  And yes, there have been reports on twitter and facebook about wallets being emptied out.  For example:

That would explain why on some popular equihash pools the hashrate dropped quite significantly. Also the ETN nethash dropped by 10%. Not too bad if they are down but I hope that they were not hacked and people lost money.

My rigs still stand. Connection no. But my account balance shows correctly. On the nicehash website says that technical work is underway. This has never happened before. It seems to me that this is a serious problem. They probably broke and they don't want to talk about it in order not to lose customers.

Has anyone considered that they might have moved all balances to a single address while they do maintenance?

It is a bit worrying, But I do think everyone is quick to grab their pitchforks.

I checked my 2x NH wallets and they show 0 transactions so a little worried.

Just been thinking about if they have been hacked and the funds in my NH wallet have been taken.

I have 2FA enabled so, in theory, this would stop them.

You also get a mail with a code, a massive long string of code to confirm the transaction also.

NH have their own wallet.

I have a wallet with NH but it is it's own wallet so again in theory only I should have access to it.

Yea, I'm worried. Had $600 in my wallet. I tried checking it, with a few websites, and they all say 0. There are no transactions at all tho. No sends no receives, nothing. One site had a thing on the bottom that said "No transactions. If you are seeing this message, this address may not of been used yet.", so on the other hand I'm not seeing where anything was moved either. I remember hearing something before about their addresses not being an actual address, only an internal address specific to them, so I dunno. Definetly stressful waiting for info.

Boy, this really is a good example why it's important for companies to be a little more transparent with their customers when they do things that are service affecting... Take the BTC transfer mentioned above - it could be one of two things:

#1, Transfer all wallet funds into a temporary wallet when changing something on the existing wallet (good safety measure)
#2, Hacker transferring all wallet funds to their wallet - poof!  Your money is gone.

Since Nicehash has been around the block for a while, I'd like to assume they've got things running pretty tightly on the wallet side of things, so let's assume for now it's #1 - the problem by not coming out and saying what's going on beyond "Our service is currently under maintenance.", or the equally enlightening "it might take longer than expected."

So are they going "Oh crap!  We need to get these servers up now!  What's taking so long?!" - or are they saying "Oh crap!  All the money is gone!  What are we going to say?!"

Either way, no one can do anything but sit on the sidelines and wait because no one will know anything until they give us some sort of update.

Just before payday too Sad.. Guess im out a week of mining :/

If they never come back where should i take my 1060/1070 rig? Are there any other switching miners? I loved that it was doing the most profitable coin at any given time. Instead of staying on one all day/week.

Reading through reports here and on Reddit I see two possible scenarios here

1. Nicehash has been hacked

Or

2. Nicehash detected some kind of internal breach and as a security precaution they moved all coins they controlled to a new wallet they control.
  • Why would they do this? Possible reasons include their private keys were compromised or passwords were stolen
  • A high level employee with access may have made a threat or been a security risk so they (over?)reacted by moving everything

In either scenario it's likely going to be a while before we really know the truth. I'm sure they are contacting authorities and are beginning investigations.

My advice is to pick a coin you like and start mining it or start looking for NH alternative sites.

Nicehash is a mining centralization plague, it's bad that someone can loose earnings, but if Nicehash disappears it would be a good luck Smiley
Maybe some of its users will start mining on regular pools and trading instead of searching for another alternative for noob miners Cheesy

It's been half a day now and this is certainly no longer a "regular maintenance". If they were hacked then this is theft and a SWAT team will stomp those hackers out.
There is another downside to mining crypto. The constant fear of getting hacked. It doesn't matter if Bitcoin is unhackable, they just go for the weakness - the exchanges, etc.

blatantly wrong. any buyer can see their wallet transactions on the block chain. And I can clearly see 50ish withdrawls from my nicehash wallet between 2017-12-06 02:27:00 and 2017-12-06 06:15:12 averaging about 1btc each.

This doesn't look good. They have been down for maintenance for 6+ hours. I feel some lawsuits on the horizon. I don't understand why miners don't just mine the most profitable coin and go through a proxy service like nicehash. I moved off of them a year ago and mine directly to a wallet of the coin I am currently mining in. When I need to take profit I move it to an exchange and do so.

Hello guys, nicehash is not using standard wallet for transaction so it’s normal if the balance is 0. If you notice there are not transaction even if you had it before.

The thing is big and even the two factor authentication is not safe because if someone hacked the server the two factor aurh can be bypassed.

Usually the keys and the password are not stored cleared so if someone hacked them has been really good on it or they keep clear all users data.

My two cent.

Everyone saying about having 0 on their wallet and checking it out on the block chain.. Doesn't really understand how their system works...

They will not literally deposit any money on the wallet they generate to you as it would have unnecessary network cost for them.. What they do is just add an entry on their database pointing that address X has Y balance... And when you ask for payout.. Then their internal address will send out the money and deduct from the database...

Sσ tracking your NH address on the blockchain won't work.. You might be able to see it through if you have made any deposit to it previously.. But you might never see that address sending funds directly to you.. Or you might even see that it has been zero out long time ago....

I wish I had .0001 BTC for every time a "hack" rumor circulated. Fun to watch all the guppies swim to and fro. Here's a hint. Don't leave money in ANY wallet. At least not any amounts that will be painful to lose.

Yeah she should have said "Our PR team will send out an update soon regarding the outage"

Instead she said "handle the situation"

to me "handle the situation" implies something not good.

Why should anyone leave his money on a pool , ppl still don't understand cryptos , never trust third party ,if they don't run with your money someone will hack them and run with it , so it's a matter of time to be stolen , control your private keys control your own money....no banks in crypto

Payouts are scheduled in this case, at least to my knowledge.
A lot of Crypto mining is about trust and contributing to the network and pools, i guess.

No trust is needed in crypto , if ppl used it the rigth way , we would't see MT gox or nicehash or any other basterds stealing ppl hard earned money , just use it the right way.

That leaves out a lot of traders and users of bitcoins that need to exchange bitcoins for fiat at a regular basis (or vice versa). I'm not saying you're wrong - I'm saying a different solution needs to be found. This is why I am long on DEX alts. (All of them).

Pool payout is minimum 0.1 BTC that I transfer every few days to my main wallet, I don't keep money with Nicehash but I've lost possibly a payout due tomorrow, over £900
I just wish Nicehash would make a statement it's the not knowing that fuels rumours and attacks the companies reputation..

There are some solutions now for exchanging , like direct exchange from your wallet with local trader , ppl will have difficult time while learning how to control thier own money , it's a fact that most of us don't like to take that risk to control our own money.

Why don't nicehash miners just mine like everyone else  Huh

Because more of them are single GPU users that do not know how to setup different wallet than BTC and then to find pools to join, download the appropriate miners, setup them and so on.
It's not so easy to do when you are not tech savvy.

On the other note even if they are hacked, they will be back or someone else will take their place. It's very lucrative business and they are/were the market leaders.

Many of you already know that the site reddit spread information about the alleged hacking of our service. We hasten to assure everyone that your bitcoins are safe and sound. And we are the largest pool in the CIS countries are not going to close, but rather increase our presence in the regions.

In connection with the increased number of those wishing to mine the crypto currency at our sites, as well as rent or lease out the capacities for mining, we conduct PLANNED technical works, which are to be completed on Friday morning. From December 8, the service will work in the standard mode.

Since this is the most massive update in the last two years, we have indeed suspended all Bitcoin payments, and the funds were taken to a safe place. After the works - everything will be returned to their places. Please do not panic!

Sincerely yours, NiceHash.

If this is real and this was a planned outage, it's an absolute shit-show from a customer service standpoint to not make any announcement that NH will potentially be down for 2 days.

Dear NiceHash users!

Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.

Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.

Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.

We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.

We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.

While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.

What a bunch of idiots for holding that much in hot wallets. Not surprising though given their amateurish history.

Also, based on the screenshot, Tanja knew she can't say anything and let the PR team come up with something which suggest that it's a hack. I mean if it was a technical issue, she wouldn't have straight orders not to say anything imo. Also, what technical issues a multipool could have that can't be solved within hours and one that involves moving funds to one address?

Edit: nevermind, hack confirmed.

Somewhat glad that I was only mining with my 1060 for 1 day and had a $3 balance. I can call this a failed experiment. Sorry for others who most likely lost their hard earned cash. I hope they find the hackers and give them the beating they deserve.

4700 BTC sounds like a lot but it's probably just a few days or 1 week worth of nicehash accumulation. I doubt this will mean the end for nicehash, but definitely take a massive confidence hit and reduced user numbers.

Any small-time player who lost money can quickly make it back while mining over the next few days - without nicehash algo swapping, there are some incredible profits available for those to chase them.

There is an easy and working solution for situations like this, just contact bitfinex.

1) We need one more exchange, let's call it nicefinex.

2) Everyone who lost some "money" will be credited with nfx tokens.

3) Start nfx market at nicefinex.

4) Enable margin trading.

5) Start printing some magic "cryptofiat", this annoying phase can be skipped by simply adding numbers to order books.

6) Pump it.

7) Tadaa, all those dues are payed full in what, three weeks.

8.) WTF just happened?

9) I don't care, btc is going up.

edit: who ever you are, congratulations, you have the best miner there is haha!

edit2: xmr pump has something to do with this?

last line is the best: we are sorry for the inconvenience this caused.

being down for maintenance is an inconvenience. not responding to inquiries in a timely manner is an inconvenience.

getting hacked and losing all your customers money is a touch above inconvenience.

Let me fix this:

We apologize for fucking you in the ass!

Look at this guys response in the one discord channel I'm in when I posted this:

"I lost my last month's worth of mining effort because of this. Not only that, but since my car was totalled after I made the last payment, NiceHash has been my only source of income as I am still waiting for the title to the car to be released. Please...do not hate yourself as much as I hate myself right now..because it is not a fun moment"

Mining Pool Hub have the same features as Nicehash. It has multy mining and even it is better as you can choose coin for auto exchange.

There is no reason to believe that the haul is "locked". Quite the contrary. I'm sure it will be converted and laundered ASAP.

Maybe they send to cold storage monthly and the hacker knew the schedule for this.
I would think 4,700 BTC is about a months worth of mining for Nicehash users.

Thats how large pools work.  They have one wallet for a particular coin and a database to know who is supposed to get what.  If the database gets corrupted or the wallet hacked, you're up a creek without a paddle.  Auto payouts are your friend.

Word on the street is the perps weren't interested in the money, they just wanted the cred/branding: NiceHack.  Coming soon to a coffee mug near you.  Customize yours with your specific amount of lost BTC, i.e., I lost 150,000シ in NiceHack and all I got was this stupid mug.

What was the minimun payout?

Low-key was no minimum payout but weekly schedule
bigger players could have daily payouts
users of Nicehash miner could increase frequency of payouts

Something like that. They acted about 24 hours prior to the weekly payout that most miners are on.

I  believe it's .0005 btc as long as you are transferring .01 or less. After, it's %2.

So most people waited until. .01 then transferred. At least that's what I was planning on doing... so I lost about 70 bucks.

It's too much if you directly put it into your wallet. I think it's 4% or something. That's a hefty amount

Makes me wonder about the future of nicehash. I have a feeling they are going to just shut down soon... I don't see anyone wanting to use their services to buy mining power, which means they won't be able "sell mining power"...

I was making about 2 dollars per day with my 970 and cpu. I would suspect it being more like 50 cents a day now.

That's a common misconception, but a few million here, a few million there, pretty soon you're talking about real money.  Tongue  This is why use the jaws of life to get the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube.

There was an attack on bcc that hurt the scrypt profit-switching pools just a day before this.  I'm really not sure this heist was all about the money, or at least, not just this particular pile of money.  The perps may be playing a much bigger game.

You would have seen the outgoing transaction on the blockchain. 0 spent out of it.

https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/address/1EnJHhq8Jq8vDuZA5ahVh6H4t6jh1mB4rq

That's the thing about btc... there is no name associated to it, but you can track it's whereabouts.

The perpetrator(s) are probably gonna let the BTC sit for a few days/weeks to celebrate their successful haul.
Then after that, use several mixing services on the darknet, exchange to other privacy cryptocurrencies like Monero, then exchange back, mix it more. And finally all traces and trails are gone.

So this was most likely planned out to coincide with the payout?

Without doubt. I'm surprised they didn't squeeze another 20 hours of mining profits Wink I guess once you are over $50m it's all the same...

That's a common misconception, but a few million here, a few million there, pretty soon you're talking about real money.  Tongue  This is why use the jaws of life to get the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube.

I ain't really sure what they plan to do with them, everyone knows where they are and are watching. The FBI can trace bitcoin transactions now so it's dead money.
I'm gonna venture a guess that anyone savvy enough to clip $59m like this has a plan to disperse and liquidate the Crypto through anonymous and untraceable channels. You can track BTC transactions but NOT identities. I'm positive it's much easier than washing fiat.

So you think that a person or persons smart enough to pull this heist off is just winging it and had "no plan" to liquidate the haul??? How do you know that it's not internal? It's likely that this hack is a new method. I tend to believe that a group that knows how to clean out an entire Company's coiffures has a very viable plan to spend those proceeds. Unless.....they were fast enough to lock down the address before a transfer. That's doubtful.

The only people who got BTC stolen is Nicehash - none of the Nicehash customer wallets hold any BTC, just an IOU from Nicehash promising to pay you.

Having said that, I doubt Nicehash will be ponying up anytime soon ...

I was owed about $300, how about you?

The people who suffered in both cases were mining altcoins, and were out on the fringes of profit switching among the lesser known, less secure alts (bcc, for example).  Taking out some alts on the periphery might increasingly scare speculative dollars to more established currencies, not just bitcoin, but the most familiar, strongest cryptos.  Two attacks wouldn't accomplish that, so I'm just spit-balling unless there are more attacks, but if they profit from each attack with the foreknowledge of what will go down as well as the wallet proceeds, they can drive bigger and bigger attacks as they go and knock down targets like dominos.

If you were going to attack the entire system rather than just promote your corner of it, eventually all the way to attacking bitcoin itself, that wouldn't be a bad way to start.  Alts are almost an overflow for BTC.  Take that away and profit in the process, and you've got a softer final target and more resources to hit it with.

Once this stuff starts moving you need to be extra careful on sales here or localbitcoins.
Some "very good" rates people got offered here on bitcointalk were in fact dirty btc.

I would not loose one wink of sleep after putting a bullet right through the head of any of these thieves. More likely though, I would shoot them in the stomach and enjoy their slow painful death. It would not shock me in the least if this wasn't an organized Corporate, or Government attack on NH and consequently Bitcoin. Those central bank and corporate scumbags and thieves are getting very, very scared of the BTC price movement lately. They stand to lose a LOT.

It all seems a bit too "convenient" doesn't it. The timing....the sheer volume....the complete blackout of the site. One wallet with not only $59.000.000.00 in it, but lax enough security to be able to clean it out?? Something definitely stinks very badly.

People who believes that the site was hacked then you're out of your mind, this strategy was planned already of nicehash team, as the bitcoin price soar ($14k at coinmarketcap) and of course its a big win win to them everyone will believe if they will tell the world that they were hacked using those huge media/news site, and now its time, they published that were hacked? Com'on, this is not common thing, hashocean moved that way too when price is in the middle of surging. BTW get ready with hashflare too lol

Ehh its always doom and gloom around here if you listen to that kind of shit.
Its quite common for people to think the sky is falling.
Granted, sometimes it is.

Now is it time to don our tinfoil hats? Sure why not?
I have a very stylish one!

Edit:
Does anyone else here not see the lack of logic in them up and running?
The business model was killer. It was really sound. Especially because if you had spent any time mining you would see that the rates they give is almost 3/4 what it would be worth if you were actually mining something.
The positive side is that smaller coins can actually be secured and not pwned by massive hash rates as soon as they launch by any ol guy who could click a few buttons and deposit some BTC.

In my mind this is not a conspiracy, though I may be wrong, but instead someone skimped on updating the website UI and there was a hole. Thats what happens with these things.
Honestly, is the person doing it for the money? Well Im sure it doesnt hurt. But more probably they are doing it to "re-secure" alts that launch and then literally are broken by people mining to hell and dumping.

1. BTC price its at a alltime high. Good time for an exit.
2. To put all btc in one wallet is just stupid. Even with the slightest security thinking you can realize that.
3. The internal adresses was probably linked to this wallet. And is a strange system in itself.

Myself I was about to get payed a bit over 0.01 btc the 8th of December. It feels fishy this happens just before.

Thats how the large pools work.  They receive the coin, you get an entry in a database that youll receive x number of coins and when cashout happens, they send it from the main wallet.  Thats why lots of people will tell you to not leave anything on a pool, if they get hacked or the database is corrupted, you're screwed.

I hade .32 BTC at nicehash! That's $4200

You can make more money without Nicehash.

Mine electroneum ( ETN ) it's off the charts now that Nicehash is down. My 4 1080 ti's make $29.00 a day.

Go here and put your hashrate with Cryptonight  at the bottom and see what you're daily earning are:

Luck affects payout as well.  Some people use those calculators as gospel in mining.  Its just a calculation of that particular moments difficulty, nethash, and your hashrate.  You still have to hit blocks to get paid and most forget that.

Crazy time for sure. I cant decide if its the perfect moment to pull a take the money and claim they are trying to fix it while setting themselves up for good and running off while their excuses buy them time or if someone actually pulled off quite the theft. Either way it sucks for all those using Nicehash.  Many miners have with little knowledge were using it for the simple ease of use and have never really looked into other pools before.  It will be interesting to see what happens to those and where they go after losing most of their earning potential.  Those who were grinding away with 1 or 2 GPUs or even CPU miners probably wont come back.  Although they are small timers they add up to a decent hash rate between them all.

I was mining on NiceHash with 2 GPU + CPU. I am shocked what happened, it looks like everyone lost their balance for good. That was internal wallets so money is lost for good. Below is a hacker wallet that collected all BTC from NiceHash. I think they will be out of business if not they should, and they should take responsibility. Users always complain about Bitcoin was banned somewhere in the world or there is an extra verification process on the exchange but after this what happened to NiceHash we can understand how important is to put right laws in place to prevent things like this to happen in future.

I don't know much about the inner workings of bitcoin, but they know what wallet the stolen coins went into and where they went from there. Is it impossible to black-list the tainted coins/wallets? If every single transaction is in a ledger, then wouldn't every single coin be traceable?

Mine electroneum ( ETN ) it's off the charts now that Nicehash is down. My 4 1080 ti's make $29.00 a day.
You can make up to $40 on other coins. Just saying Smiley Cryptonight is for CPUs and Vega.

1. BTC price its at a alltime high. Good time for an exit.
They create a "hack", wait for BTC correction, sell all 4500 bitcoins and buy them back low.
Then make an announcement that funds were miraculously recovered Grin

It is Wednesday afternoon and one employee is bored outta his mind preparing TPS reports for NiceHash managers. Then he decides to check BTC price and sees it is at all time high. And plan starts to develop..

Instead of making useless comments, perhaps you could explain why the system cannot be used to track the stolen coin? It seems that users were quite successful in watching where it went from the nicehash wallet.

Once this stuff starts moving you need to be extra careful on sales here or localbitcoins.
Some "very good" rates people got offered here on bitcointalk were in fact dirty btc.

How does that matter?I don't think there's such a thing as dirty BTC. It's just BTC.

It does. You might not be able to exchange it afterwards the same way you cannot exchange gold where the serials are reported stolen.
Exchanges blacklist several addresses. The wannacry-ransom-address was one of them:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-exchange-shapeshift-helps-police-as-wannacry-attacker-converts-to-monero
But we can also look further back into the past where mt gox was still operational:
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/mtgox-the-bitcoin-police-what-the-largest-exchange-is-doing-about-the-linode-theft-and-the-implications-1337616444/
Since the btc-blockchain is transparent, even sending it around a little bit will not help you over the long term.
If you cannot exchange or switch it, you are stuck with it.

All their coins in one warm wallet, something not right there surely an inside job, what about back up funds? Profits?
How can a company with such technology make such a naive error??

Thats how large pools work.  They have one wallet for a particular coin and a database to know who is supposed to get what.  If the database gets corrupted or the wallet hacked, you're up a creek without a paddle.  Auto payouts are your friend.
I had auto payouts but high limit with Nicehash was due payout tomorrow

What was the minimun payout?

To my external wallet was 0.1BTC that I reached approx every 5-6 days

Someone able to steal this much of coins will have knowledge how to launder the coins untraceable. There are several darknet launder places where coins get mixed so none is able to say whos has which coin. Also few swaps to altcoins like Monero and ZEC with hidden transactions the output is fresh altcoins which can be traded to fresh BTC and none knows which has which "stolen" Bitcoin. Maybe all bitcoins are traceable but whith some major mixing none knows who holds which coin.

Time to switch to Winminer or wait for Nicehash ? I consider already lost about 200 USD in each of my six boards so a total loss of 1200 USD which I would have got on Friday as that's my payday. It sucks and I think it has been an inside job as always in these cases.

What I'm shocked about is, how btc didn't take a hit and did the total opposite. biggest heist in bitcoin history, and price still keeps going up? Did I just jinx it? lol....

if this was real, I would say nicehash will have a better plan for keeping money secure now (if they stay in business) but I don't think they'll have good payments... who is going to use the service now?

I see alot of other options here, but none is easy as nicehash. It was literally, download app, benchmark, start making money.

easyhash.io will require little bit of setup... What else is out there?

That one has been considered scammish as hash rates are very low, so they're taking a decent cut from your hashing power.

The "2%" is a constant. What's the relative difference between 2% of %100.00 and $1000.00?Huh So there is no penalty or difference in withdrawing that 2% every damn day if you like. You pay the same percentage on the total balance at the time of transfer. I would have to say the same to you. This definitely "ain't for you".

Why?? He's the same dipshit that just before that posted, that he doesn't like paying 2% on small amounts so he left his money in there for a week so he would only have to pay 2% on larger amounts. LMGDAO!!

If the BTC core team did something about the blockchain size issue 2 years ago instead of bickering and arguing like a bunch of two year olds ppl could of gotten daily payouts without spending $10 to send $5 the cost of BTC transactions is stupid this is why we have BTC this and that and how is it a handful of ppl are controlling the development and future of BTC

Whats another good alternative like nicehash? So far tried winminer, it keeps locking up my pc's every few hours. Tried minergate, seems like I should be getting paid more than what its claiming. I guess they don't have any other set it and forget it types out there as easy as nicehash?

I don't know much about the inner workings of bitcoin, but they know what wallet the stolen coins went into and where they went from there. Is it impossible to black-list the tainted coins/wallets? If every single transaction is in a ledger, then wouldn't every single coin be traceable?

Yep stick to your day job, blockchain aint for you son!!

Despite the disturbing news, this comment totally made my day!  Grin Grin Grin
Why?? He's the same dipshit that just before that posted, that he doesn't like paying 2% on small amounts so he left his money in there for a week so he would only have to pay 2% on larger amounts. LMGDAO!!
are you trolling? they charged a flat fee, obviously, and people didn't want it to amount to a large percent of the reward encouraging them leave larger amount in the wallet.

P.S. the bitcoin network charges a transaction fee, this is not based on a percentage of the amount sent. Free lesson, Enjoy!

So....you're saying that .02% fee of 10 separate $100.00 withdrawals is MORE than 1, .02% fee of 1, $1,000.00 withdrawal ?

You only live once....if you do it right, once is enough.

Big multipools like NiceHash that ran up the diff on new coins, only to dump them for BTC were a big part of the reason mining was unprofitable and the end of 2014. Can't say I'll miss them, but it sucks to everyone that lost BTC. Been there with the MintPal inside job. At least they caught the fucker.

What else is out there?

Minergate has been going for quite some time now.

I don't know that much about how it's done, since I'm a bit new to this gig, but I switched to minergate and their numbers didn't seem to add up with the amount of hashing my systems are producing. A discrepancy of about 30%. I'm not saying they're doing something crooked, but I switched to some different pools and the numbers match up against my calculated stats again. Maybe it's a difference in the reporting, but I remain suspicious.

Understandable. You can similarly bitch at a company like Walmart for destroying brick and mortar type businesses, but everyone is just playing inside the constraints of the market. I'm disappointed for the lack of proper security and asset compartmentalization, they dropped the ball in a big way. For that, NH needs to be taken to task.

However, some of the comments here are a bit like victim blaming. If a hot woman is wearing a skimpy outfit, it doesn't justify her being raped. The rapists still need to be brought to justice. NH didn't deserve to be robbed. These thieves ultimately stole from miners like you and I. I don't think of NH as hot woman, but I hope next time she comes packing some good defence. (Tasers and guns? Dad with a shotgun? Maybe...)

I really do feel for all that had BTC locked up in NiceHash, hopefully if it's not an exit scam they make it right.

It is interesting to see what a difference having NiceHash offline does to the difficult on some coins. Some have/had dropped by 40% or more in difficulty.

Have you ever used the nicehash to say that? Who are you? Nicehash team worked to make convenient and accessible pool. They did. Nicehash was the best in the world. Nicehash was a really really good service, both for miners and for buyers. Up til yesterday there has not been a problem (that was their fault) with their service, They were reliable and could be trusted. I just hope that this is proven not to be an inside job, that would ruin the nicehash company.

so much hate for nicehash...

It was the easiest way to setup mining and bring in BTC. I can't think of any other simpler way to download 1 software, and bring in 100 dollars worth of bitcoin every month on a 5 year old gaming computer.

$60m bitcoin locked vs constant sell pressure by miners... could be worse.
There is no reason to believe that the haul is "locked". Quite the contrary. I'm sure it will be converted and laundered ASAP.

you can't just launder $60m from crypto to fiat. that's not possible

I must say this is an interesting situation, the company seemed to be making a killing and they invested in technology. I don't think this was an inside job.

1. Inside job, someone got strong armed and forced them to take down the network
2. Russian hackers helping Trump (just a joke)
3. Another competitor is getting ready to come online and this was the first step
4. Other miners hacked them because they had a great product and brand recognition
5. This was their plan all along
6. Price of BTC was going to jump and they realized there is more to be made from taking the BTC(New business model)

Had 1k $ waiting to be paid to my external wallet tomorrow on NH. I hope they will recover.
NH was the most stable service i was mining on. Now switched to secondary pools, but not one of them is anywhere near the same profit as NH. Prohashing dies every 24 hours, zpool is shady and profits dissapear somehow and you're paid as if you're mining on shitty 10yr old hardware and not state-of-the-art miners. So the solution for the time being would be to mine some DGB or other profitable multialgo coins, or directly BTC and LTC.

I both sold and bought on nicehash, that's why I kept some btc there. Sad they were really good and I don't think there will be an as good alternative one.
Hope they will recover, at least the wallets because some of my pools locked the payouts to my wallet on nicehash and those pools still have some of my btc. Sad

LOL at this.  I'm not even a criminal and I can think of many ways just off the top of my head.  I'm sure guys who steal this much have it down to a science.  Daily volume of bitcoin trading is 17 billion dollars.  $60m is a drop in the bucket.  They could easily spread this around and convert this to altcoins or use some large tumbler.  All you need to do is read this story:  http://www.app.com/story/news/crime/jersey-mayhem/2017/11/03/jackson-pastor-sentenced-five-years-bitcoin-scheme/829670001/  This guy was a pastor running a small time credit union and they managed to convert "10s of millions" in bitcoin.  And this is in the USA!  Imagine how much easier it is to run a scheme like this in countries with less regulation.

Yes....thank you. A lot of people in here are chugging giant glasses of stupid. I bet half these butthurt hateful bastards, are also the ones that host their servers in huge mining centers like Genesis. Fucking retarded hypocrites. I only use NH as a back up but I will say they were stable as the Rock Of Gibralter and the profits were ALWAYS top shelf.

$60m bitcoin locked vs constant sell pressure by miners... could be worse.
There is no reason to believe that the haul is "locked". Quite the contrary. I'm sure it will be converted and laundered ASAP.

you can't just launder $60m from crypto to fiat. that's not possible
Oh yes you can Mogambo. My first step would be to get it to Monero. I don't know why you would say that. It wouldn't be hard at all.

I guess we will see Monero spiking hard soon if you are right and regarding Nicehash i feel lucky i havent used their services even though i had the intention to rent some of my hash power.

so much hate for nicehash...

It was the easiest way to setup mining and bring in BTC. I can't think of any other simpler way to download 1 software, and bring in 100 dollars worth of bitcoin every month on a 5 year old gaming computer.

100% correct.  When I first started mining I used Nicehash while I learned the ropes.  I realized it was more profitable to mine to a pool directly but didn't know enough.  Still though, I can see why so many people continued to use it.  You didn't have to mess around with a bunch of different altoin exchanges or following the markets to be sure the the coins you were mining weren't crashing, or checking to see if difficulty and hashrate was rising at an extreme rate.  Strangely you don't see this much hate for Nemos Miner, Multipoolminer, Zpool, or anything else.  I can assure everyone that ZPool is more responsible for killing profitability than Nicehash.

Zpool....flat out thieves. I wonder how many of these butthurt screamers still have currency sitting in other wallets.....like Coinbase.....which BTW is down right now.

well the main problem with nice were it was too powerful
it could kill a coin very easily if someone  give too much power, kicks the diff to the moon, then leave..
and normal miner will be try to mine the new block like eternity.
but for new people in  crypto - it makes life much easier, no doubts!

will see how it goes now
