With a ~$2000 USD budget (for GPUs + mobo, risers, CPU,[PSU and RAM already owned]) which would you get?

6x RX 580 4GB for $1530
or
4x GTX 1070 for $1640

The 1070 has room to expand, plus I already have 1x GTX 1070 that would make 5x total and would leave room for an additional 1070 later. Is the 1070 the logical choice?

Nvidia's rigs have more versatility and much easier to setup imho for beginners.

Well I ran a mostly AMD mining rig earlier when ETH was at $50-$399, then when it dropped under $300 I sold all my equipment. And yes, Nvidia does not require modded BIOS or special drivers (at least not that I'm aware.) and are easier to OC. So yes I had thought about that and am leaning toward Nvidia.

Okay, I only mined ETH so I'm not familiar with the long-run of these other alt-coins. I mined some VIVO and MONA this past week with my single 1070 to get a feel of it. I'm thinking of mining MONA until it drops below profitability of ZCASH and Bitcoin Gold.

Or does using Nicehash (aside from the hack) and the auto-switching work out best? I'm not familiar with it.

Well if you want autoswitch, zpool or any of them is pretty good i guess if you want directly BTC like nicehash, nice isn't probably dead because of the theft, but until they show alot of improvements i don't think i'll trust them ever again, their system was so flawed even though they were swimming in money, i prefer to switch over different algos & pools but it depend alot on what time you want to invest in scripts, researchs, and so on to exploit new algos and do alot of switching.
