This is a very serious problem. But it doesn't mean Ethereum's network will crashed. Actually it is an advantage for them because they discover at an early time that their networks have flaws.

We're told that crypto-kitties is slowing down the Ethereum network by 10%, but I can't do any transactions at all.

How is it affecting others here?

I think the other people have the same problem with you. the ethereum network got many transactions that need to confirm and they need to wait for a long time. I am sure that this problem will be solved soon or now the transaction is back to normal again. I do not yet check it because I don't make any transaction on the ethereum network.
