This morning, I was reading about some sort of online game, “EVE Online,” which has a game-world currency called “Interstellar Kredits.” Like any currency, this one needs to be managed. Here is how it was described by Yahoo! Games:

The EVE Online economy is the deepest i have ever seen in a game. Hundreds of thousands of people producing and trading thousands of different things. Everything in EVE is produced by players, ships, weapons, ammunitions, stations etc. A lot of people profit just by trading, buying and selling, moving items, exploiting wars and changes in supply and so on.

I am already sure, just like in the real world, that EVE's economy works only because their resident economist is relatively hands-off. Fascinating economy they have there, though, complete with real for-profit businesses completely in-game and spontaneously created by players. If only they did this with WoW and the others.
