i am getting low memory warnings while downloading complete blockchain with client.  can someone suggest a way to allocate a larger portion to a session?

I think that it uses all RAM available to it by default.

You could create a new swap partition with Gparted, then right click it and select Swap On (or if you have a Linux installation, simply select the swap partition of your existing installation and use that.)
Be aware that if you do this, some of the contents of memory will be placed on the hard drive, which may not be too secure.
