My guess is this throttles back the power request from the ASIC to the PSU - but is that *really*  what it does?

Having trouble finding a simple explanation.  Will lowering it lower the hash rate significantly?

Canaan's explanation is as terse as always:  "We added a Voltage Offset option for users because each AvalonMiner is different with each other because of the inclusion of so many high performance chips. The AvalonMiners are very sensitive with voltage, so the “Voltage Offset” option is used for tweaking the AvalonMiner’s voltage. If the miner works well, we suggest to not change the voltage.
And, the lower voltage offset, the lower power. So if the miner works well with -2, it just means the miner has better health."

What do they mean "works well"?  Does that mean "fast", "reliable" or something else?

Thanks!

It slightly lowers the voltage to the chips so they run slightly slower. You do this to reduce the heat load or maybe you have one with a weak asic thats throwing errors at the stock voltage levels.

From my testing you can expect something like this:

RPi with 20 A741 at 0 offset are about 146th
RPi with 20 A741 at -2 offset are about 136th

the -2 offset runs about 5c cooler on the chips.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

Thanks.

I only started this research because I got a "Red light" on one of them and it was running at half-rate.  Its powered with 1500W of EVGA gold PSUs (twin 750)...  Was thinking it might be power related I cut it down to -2.  No red light.  Now set it at -1 and no red light after 8 hours.  I'll let them run for 24 and then decide what to do.

I may go back to 0 again.  The units are running at 33/85C on average so not too bad....
