Im using Xchat on Ubuntu. I have configured Xchat for tor, and connect by using the line:
/server p4fsi4ockecnea7l.onion

I get disconnected because "You need to identify via SASL...(SASL access only)"
I have already added "cap_sasl_xchat.pl" to ~/.xchat2/ and I get the message "SASL: auth loaded from ..." when I start Xchat, so I know the script is there. I have tried the "set" command with "/sasl" yet I cant get it to work. I have tried:
/sasl set FreeNode mynick mypass plain
/sasl set irc.freenode.net mynick mypass plain
/sasl set p4fsi4ockecnea7l.onion mynick mypass plain

yet I still cant connect, for the same reason (SASL access only)
Is it a prerequisite that people were previously registered to freenode?

I really want some bitcoin irc chat so any help would be appreciated!

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Have you tried the steps here? http://blog.freenode.net/2010/01/connecting-to-freenode-using-tor-sasl/

You will need to modify them a bit to make them work in XChat but that shouldn't be too tough.

Let me know if it works.

Yes I have installed the script. Looking at that site it says I have to have a registered nick... but I cant connect to the non-tor server, both with and without using tor myself. this has consumed alot of time on just retrying...

Nevermind, figured it out.
I first managed somehow to succeed connecting unregistered to nickserv, I just had to edit the username and password and restart XChat. Registered to NickServ, then was able to connect through tor.
