A Bitcoin wallet is a collection of private keys but may also refer to client software used to manage those keys and to make transactions on the Bitcoin network.

May I recommend to check bitcoinwiki.org for that. You can find all the answers there

When starting out and reading about wallets I thought it was confusing but it's surprisingly easy. While you do hear about people getting their wallet compromised I don't think it's as common as it may look. Most of my friends that have been doing this for years have never been compromised. I would just jump the gun on a simple wallet and then as you learn the basics you'll move to a more secure one.

um a newbie here.i want to know what is this bitcoin wallet and are there different types of bitcoin wallets?
A bitcoin wallet has both a online payment software and information component. The online payment software provides security and encryption for the personal information and for the actual trusted transaction.

A Bitcoin wallet is a software program where Bitcoins are stored. To be technically accurate, Bitcoins are not stored anywhere; there is a private key (secret number) for every Bitcoin address that is saved in the Bitcoin wallet of the person who owns the balance.

as far as i remember there are lots of possible wallets that you can use to store your Altcoins that i found on the internet.
here are some of the example:

Online Wallet
Mobile Wallets
Desktop Wallets
Hardware Wallet
Paper Wallets
Multisig Wallets
Multicurrency Wallets

you can try doing some research on how those wallets works but as for now i am looking forward on using a Cold wallet since most of the persons i ask on the site advised me to use.

hope i was able to help you man.

A bitcoin wallet is a piece of software that you use to communicate with the bitcoin network and then you can tell a bitcoin network when you want to send or receive transactions. The functioning is similar to email address. It contains public key like an email address and a private key like an email’s password. You can do the transaction by logging into your account. It's highly recommended to keep your private key secure.
