Hello,

I have a used batch 2 avalon and I don't have the password. What is the easiest way to get it going? It's all set up with my info too, but it's not automatically connecting to my wireless and I can't login to change anything because I don't have the password. I've heard about resetting it by reflashing OpenWrt, but I don't see a reset button on the avalon and I don't want to mess it up. I also don't want to lose the system settings that have it overclocked, but I will if necessary. If you can help me fix it today, I'll give you 1 btc.

Thanks

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

There are avalon tech support threads over in the custom hardware section.  You might even be able to find the answer by reading one of them if you don't want to wait for a mod to move this thread.

Try to find this board:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#The_TP-LINK_WR703N

It should be somewhere on the inside. I think you can reset to defaults if you can find that and hold in the reset button, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

Actually, I think it might be here:

Again, I'm not sure what happens when you click that, it might reset itself to "bad" settings, so I'd recommend waiting for someone to comment that knows for sure.

Pressing the reset button for several seconds (keep the button pushed, until the light stop flashing) at the boot time (push the button first, then power on the machine, may need 30-60 secs) lead to openwrt safe mode.

after successful reset, 703n ip will be 192.168.1.1/24, use telnet to connect (no password). type in "firstboot" and enter, "reboot -f" and enter, then you got the original settings (192.168.0.100/24 and empty password).

the reset button can be accessed using a ball pen or something thin and solid to push in the small hole, the right side, near the ethernet port.

Thanks for the help techwtf! You really saved my day! I've got to split the reward with someone else, but send me a pm or reply with your address if you would like me to send it. Thanks again!

For anyone else that needs help resetting the password on a batch 2 Avalon, you need to turn on the miner, wait like 8 seconds until the blue light on the back starts flashing, then press the reset button for a couple seconds, then change your ip as mentioned and login with telnet. Then type mount_root and then passwd, after resetting, just turn on and off the avalon.
