Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Hi,

I am solo-mining, but when I got blocks, it's not credited on "newmint balance" or my balance.

It seems that cloudcoin it's a scam.

Cloudcoin has a shocking orphan rate. I measured it a couple of days ago at about 92%. Meaning, 92% of the blocks your miner finds are orphaned. Less than a tenth become mature.

If the high orphan rate problem is ever fixed the value of CDC is going to take a serious dive, because people will suddenly be able to mine 10+ times as much.

I've been watching CDC blocks today and have noticed that the orphans are caused by a longer chain winning. The end of the chain grows steadily, then suddenly the lot is revoked by consensus when another longer chain wins. This happens every couple of minutes. I've seen 30+ blocks drop off from my view of the chain at times.

So it's fairly easy to win a block, but the amount never matures because the chain they're on ends up being invalidated within a minute or two.

For example, in the past 20 mins I found 46 blocks (2300 CDC); ALL have been invalidated. I don't get credited a single CDC.

I don't know if this is happening because the network is somewhat segregated and there are two or more clusters which are "distant" from each other (so they end up fighting over which chain is valid), or there's a miner with a lot of power doing something shifty like withholding block announcements to mine on their own private chain. Or maybe it's a bug in the code which is causing different parts of the network to mine at different difficulties.

Either way, something is very wrong. It's near impossible to mine CDC right now.

Sounds like you are on the wrong chain.

Sounds like you are on the wrong chain.

I don't think it's as simple as that. It is not a straight fork, it's more like having the chain clipped back by 10 links every minute or so.

Over that 20 minute period there were 23 "corrections" where another chain (or rather another tip of the chain) won the right to be the default.

Here's an example of the correction I'm talking about.

This data stream was taken from a web server that had cloudcoind installed on it a few hours ago. There were no addnode= entries in the config; initial peers were found by the client via IRC. The server has never been used for mining. The cloudcoin daemon is solely for passive monitoring of the network.

Blocks are found and the height steadily grows, until there's a correction which lops the end off the chain, invalidating all of the blocks (and transactions). The correction varies each time, but the cycle repeats constantly.

I saw a correction of -54 earlier. That's enough to turn a confirmed generated block into an orphan. Your confirmed balance drops!

I usually see 50 or so orphans in a row if it's a bad day; today I have over 1900 orphans in a row. Every block that I've found in the past 15 hours has been revoked... not a single CDC credited.

There's something very wrong with this coin, or the network.

Another strange thing is happening now - most won blocks are being granted only tiny amounts of CDC (less than 0.1). Some appear to be granted 0. Any normal 50 CDC blocks are reversed within a few minutes.

In the past 5 hours or so the height has increased by 251, yet money supply has increased by less than 20 CDC. Normally this should be 12550+ CDC.

It has now been 23 hours since any of the blocks I've won have not been reversed by the network. 2300+ orphans, net 0.00000000 CDC

I would almost bet it is OP doing this shit. If you see the scam he's running on the website to get people to "convert" the coins to 2.0 while not releasing the update, looks like he is the one doing this.

The network seems to be getting stuck in proof-of-stake mode (<1 CDC) rather than accepting proof-of-work (50 to 4400 CDC) blocks. There's plenty of PoW blocks minted by miners, but the network reverses most or all of them within a few minutes, which shows as an orphan for the miner. Occasionally there are bouts where PoW blocks make it to maturity, but this seems to be the exception rather than rule. Here's a sample from the last 10 hours showing the number of PoS and PoW blocks in the chain:

hour #1: 52 PoS
hour #2: 60 PoS
hour #3: 42 PoW, 55 PoS
hour #4: 22 PoW, 38 PoS
hour #5: 65 PoS
hour #6: 54 PoS
hour #7: 60 PoS
hour #8: 61 PoS
hour #9: 49 PoS
hour #10: 60 PoS

Note that for only 2 hours out of those 10 was a decent amount of CDC mined via PoW actually making it to maturity... everything else was PoS breadcrumbs.

People holding their coins are making a small amount of interest via PoS, but miners trying to create new coins are having no luck.

tl;dr in 10 hours the network should have minted and accepted around 600 blocks; it accepted 64.

Clearly it demonstrates how PoS is superior to PoW and how the rich don't control the network and become richer!
