Why does it have to be a brand new laptop? What's wrong with a second-hand one?

He was talking about craigslist so I guess he wants a second hand one.

Guess so.

$800 for a second-hand laptop? Thank god I never went down the Apple path, if that's the going rate.

-bump- Still up for grabs.

Sorry, no founds for lending, but if you need an OSX environment quickly, you can run it on on an average PC:
http://www.sysprobs.com/easily-run-mac-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-retail-on-pc-with-vmware-image

If we talking about cloud based Mac environments maybe you want to take a look at this site too:
http://www.macincloud.com/

Yeah VM won't work, the temporary computer I have I bought for $200, it has like 1GB of ram and I hate it, and $20/mo is a bit too steep for a development environment that I'd need an internet connection for. It'd fuck with my workflow too much. If it was $5/mo then maybe.

Guess so.

Yeah, I really miss Linux.

May I ask a stupid question? You can code, so why not offer your skills for cash.

a) you could kill some time, waiting for your $2000...
b) you would earn some money, $800 is like a 1 week fulltime coding job.

More like a day.

Where do you all get these horribly low numbers I'm seeing lately for coding work? Are people really selling themselves this short?

Assuming you're working 8 hours, that's $100/hr. I'm not that good.

And earn <10% from what you would make by making the same app for iOS (while optimizing the app to run on all devices often takes more time to do on Android; so more time -> less money).

That's assuming Apple even lets you publish your app. Pertinent example: Bitcoin.

The app I'm making wouldn't appeal to android users.

And what vlee said.

I have to admit though, android is probably a better long-term investment.

I'd be willing to do part of the loan for the What.CD collateral, but probably not more than $100.
