This is a technical question that I'm asking because I'm interested in the discussion but not doing anything with the information.  I've never programmed for GPUs but I can understand most technical, deep discussion and I'm asking this out of general curiosity.

I'd like to start a discussion on GPU mining with NVidia hardware by asking a rather open-ended question.  Feel free to respond with any thoughts that you may have on this.

First, are Nvidia GPU processors so specialized that they are pretty much useless for any type of transaction hashing and coin mining OR could a block-generation algorithm be taylor designed so that mining on NVidia GPUs is the most-optimal method for mining?

I'm not interested in creating a new alt-coin.  Still, I'm curious why no one has attempted this (or maybe they have and I missed it or the project failed!)  There are a lot of people out there who use NVidia cards and, for their intended purpose, they are great.  Still, everyone knows the drill-- NVidia is worthless for any form of mining.

So what's the deal? Is a NVidia-tailored coin feasible?  Discuss.

A Personal Quote on BTT from 2011:
"I'd be willing to make a moderate "investment" if the value of the BTC went below $2.00.  Otherwise I'll just have to live with my 5 BTC and be happy. :/"  ...sigh.  If only I knew.
