Since the "When will we see $100 again" poll has now been achieved I thought it would be fun to start a new poll.  I predict by the end of next month, August 31st, we will get to $200.  I am admittedly and unashamedly very bullish at all times though.  I do find it fun that some people voted that we would never see $100 again in the last poll and that did not last long. Wink  See you on the other side of $200!!   Grin

I find myself in the strange position of wanting the price to go down. I've had to cash out some of my holdings to pay for my summer holidays, and now I want to be able to buy back, ideally at a lower price Smiley

Perhaps there are a lot of people in a similar position?

Agreed. It is more important that $200 is sustained, not just another part of a volatile spike situation. I think January next year is the earliest to see $200 sustained.

It will still be a bumpy ride I think.  If the price peaks it will probably drop again but how low?  That is always the question.  We are thinking about using some of our holdings for a trip we are taking too.  I would rather not so we will see what my husband decides.

Is this ALL you people think about?  Roll Eyes
If we break $200 before retesting $50 and fail to make a new high soon after, it will drop like a rock again. Likely below $50.

Yes but I think that the more times the price gets up to $200 and above, the more people will want to get involved.  It will become a bit of a speculative gold rush.  People will want to buy because they believe that the price will go up again when it drops, or will keep going up.  When it does it will feed the fire, so to speak.  They will tell people that they doubled  or tripled their investments then more people will want to buy BTC.  Granted it is risky with such volatility, especially for those who are buying as the price is rising, but there is certainly money to be made.  And as Bitcoin becomes more mainstream there will be less and less need to sell as people will be able to use BTC directly.  It is just a matter of time really.

Not before we see $30.

With the current price at $105, and assuming that the Bitcoin ecosystem has hit a temporary plateau (in its growth phase), the probability of reaching $30 is the same as it reaching $367.50

I don't see it going down to $65 again in the future. There will be minor fluctuations but bitcoin is in a stable enough state to rise up to $200 and beyond. It won't be a swift rise like what happened in April'13. More gradual with many corrections.

For some reason the bubbles happened to occur around April. While in the beginning of summer the price dropped and stayed low.

The reason might be the type of people who are holding bitcoins are of the same mentality or age group with similar interests. They sold their bitcoins in the summer at the same time so they could do other things with the money and now summer is ending they are going back to buying back their bitcoins.

When school starts again the idea of bitcoins will spread beyond people's peer groups and to classmates.

So far every Apr. has brought a huge price gain. But because of the ridiculous high prices of Apr 2013 the game might have changed so a bubble can happen any time soon. Especially since a lot more people have been brought into the bitcoin world making it more dynamic.

We will have to wait and see. Bitcoins market is so unpredictable and fun to watch.

Discounting major spikes again, I'd say no. IMO $1000 won't be stably reached until late 2014.

I want it to go down as well, at least in the short term. When it goes down the spread between Gox & Bitstamp typically gets less, and I have USD stuck in Gox. Also I sold at $102.65 Sad

EDIT: YES! Bitfinex 4 da win Smiley Nvm now I want it to go up up UP

Selling that close to a buy wall was a wrong move. Unless the buy wall gets eaten quickly, in which case
selling into it before it disappears is a good move ( I did this several times ). For now, you'll have to either
take a loss by buying higher or wait. The current market status is undecided as I write this, maybe the
expected rally is going to be just a flash in the pan, in which case you better wait for the drop. OTOH, if the
expected rally gets real ( but for now I don't see the money ), the price will go up to maybe 120 in a few days,
so you'll have to wait longer until it drops below 102.
Edit: Bitfinex, hmm? Risky but it may pay off.

Sometimes, if it looks too bullish, it's actually bearish

So, if I short at bitfinex, can I use the resulting btc to lend out at a profit? Or are you not allowed to lend like that while you're in debt?

In any case the depth there is sucking, but I shouldnt complain, if it had been deeper maybe I wouldnt have got that btc back Wink

So Lets see if bitfinex can save the day a second time. Waiting for a good entry time to sell and then loan my funds out for a bit at those astronomical rates. Then im going to compensate by levering long at broker1 as explained in sig. The problem is those huge spreads. Trick now is to pick the best time to buy, when I think the gox/stamp spread is the lowest its going to be in the near future. Then if all goes well I can sit back and collect interest.

I am confident we will see $200 by early 2014, There is no stopping it alot of investors are jumping into digital currency and Bitcoin is the ultimate speculative Digital currency investment vehicle. We will def see it go to $500 sometime next year.

I know there are people calling for a $1 Million per bitcoin but that will only happen if a total collapse of fiat happens, which seems to be an unlikely scenario, given the masses are convinced the Dollar is worth something no matter how devalued it gets.

We seem to be having our share of those lately.  Sad  I would like to believe it though.  Although I am not a huge fan of Paypal, it would certainly cause a huge increase in price if it was true.

If you short, it will result in a USD position that you can not lend out and a BTC debt.  Shorting does not have any "resulting btc".  I recommend you steer clear of bitfinex until you do more research on how margin trading works.

Whether or not it's a hoax, it would make perfect business sense for paypal to adopt Bitcoin.

With PayPal-Like Ambitions For Bitcoin, BitPay Raises $2M Led By Founders Fund

The Founders Fund has three of Paypal's founders with them.

Paypal would stand to gain max ROI on their investments of being a licensed MSB in most of the world.

And Paypal CEO John Donahoe has been quoted as saying Bitcoin is on PP's radar and they're exploring it. let me find it

Not 100% sure but Paypal founders has nothing to do with todays eBay Paypal.

I doubt this would be financaly wise for them, they are sucking money out of every catch they can (but not with Bitcoin).

Not 100% sure but Paypal founders has nothing to do with todays eBay Paypal.

I doubt this would be financaly wise for them, they are sucking money out of every catch they can (but not with Bitcoin).

I feel like a founders of a company still have indirect influence over the company they created. This is like saying MSFT doesn't respect what Bill Gates thinks simply because he left the reins to Ballmer. I'm sure the old founders' action of investing in Bitpay and not Paypal is sure to stir some discussion in Paypal's boardrooms

This is totaly different stuff. Like saying Youtube founders have any influence while I believe they are not even around Youtube anymore. When you sell the whole company to a large corporation and when you leave you are out.

not necessarily. My friend's mom sold her veterinary hospital to a corporation and they still keep her around because they need her or could use her. The employees that still work there still look up to her. Even IF Paypal's founders aren't in an official advisory capacity, like I said, they still have some influence. Yeah they can't tell Paypal what to do, but they can still affect them and what their courses of action will be, especially by investing in a competing company. that's all i'm trying to say.

youtube + google =! paypal + ebay

youtube's business model has a pretty simple formula, ads. That's google's game, they have no need for youtube's creator at this point, he might not have much more to offer to Google.
paypal on the other hand, is very complex. Paypal's founders very possibly could have a new innovation on their hands, and Paypal should be very interested in understanding what that is

Well I only have a few hours here on the west coast of the USA for my $200 prediction by the end of August to come true.  At least we went up a bit though!  $148 is a good jump.  Maybe it will be $200 by the end of September though?

A 30,000 Bitcoin purchase on MTGox should get us to $200 in the next few hours.  There is still hope. Wink

I say about a $1.60 increase on average per day for the entire month of September would get it there.
