I'm about to install some tube vents that will connect my miners to the external of the house, so the noise outside should increase a bit. Anyone have experience on what is a good dB range to keep in mind?

how close are you neighbor's bedrooms to the ducts?

65db  at night will piss them off if they are close (under 100 feet) and want to sleep

I mine alt coins with https://simplemining.net...
I see BTC as the super highway and alt coins as taxis and trucks needed to move transactions.

Depends on where you live.
Guidelines by the WHO recommend under 40 dB for night noise.

If you sleep in the same house as your miners, you probably want to respect that level from your side too.

100ft is actually quite far, they are definitively closer than this. I think getting to 50ish is very reasonable. Is that a number I should shoot for?

This noise level is for inside the bedroom?

I bought a cheapo decibel meter from Amazon, use it to give yourself a frame of reference. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ECCZWWI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=aymo-20&linkId=cacb3d5e55f2b52fb8ce78d8323b15f7

I bought exactly that model last week and was doing some random measurements in different places:
* Outside my home is currently 50dB
* Inside the room with miners is 80dB
* The street level noise during the day is 50dB ish

Can I assume 50ish dB range is a safe range to assume?

Is there a level that they can formally file a complaint? (for US residents)

It varies by municipality. Below is the ordinance for my my city.
