Is this scam or real?
https://asicminer.co/shop/asicminer-equihash
I saw it somebody post it on the zcash forums:
https://forum.z.cash/t/let-s-talk-about-asic-mining/27353/1906
At first glance it seemed like a scam to me, but a few people over there say it's for real, they have sha256 too.

only people that have zero understanding of the economics of mining will buy it.

most likely it is a losing guess if you buy it even if it is real.

It will be forked to death

Of course, I wouldn't buy it even if it was real, I was just wondering if if it's a legit company that already shipped asics or just pure scam.

Asking you fine people here... I'm looking for a light Linux mining distro with the latest AMD drivers that would be flexible enough to allow me to add third party miner software. Tried HiveOS but that fell flat on its face (doesn't work when using integrated gfx - and I don't want to use any of the mining cards for the video signal for various reasons).

Any suggestions?

Problem with LINUX right now is that AMD doesn't support their integrated graphics on recent drivers at all, and current LINUX drivers from different manufacturers don't get along any more.

You CAN get an AMD integrated iGPU to run OpenCL if you're already running a discrete AMD GPU for the graphics output, but that's the best I've managed in many many hours worth of trying to make this stuff play nice together.

*IN THEORY* you should be able to do the same running Nvidia for the actual graphics but I've not gotten that to work to date, and the old Nvidia option for "no-opengl-files" stopped working 2+ years ago.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

Crap.
The main reason I don't want to go with one of the PEG GPUs as main display is because they will not allow me to enter bios in their flashed condition (non-uefi GPU plugged in as primary display means no way of entering bios). Ideally I'd like to be able to run the Linux distro one day and then just unplug the USB and run from the SSD with Windows 10 just like that. Going to have to scratch that idea it seems.

Before I ever get into "nitty gritty calculatoions" on what to buy, I take a quick gander here:

https://www.asicminervalue.com/opportunities

I don't think ASICMINER's sha256 rigs will ever ROI ( Break Even). That Equihash rig might - but it's way too high risk for me.

The only rigs I've bought  so far this year are 1x Baikal X10 and 1x L3+.

Don't close it, I'd like to discuss fog computing networks like sonm.io. Its the future for us GPU miners IMO.
I'm running a small hobby mining company, and my plan has always been to become a provider in projects like sonm.

Any interest in debating this?

You just need AMD rigs, Phil.
My 570's and Vegas are going strong, mining Cryptonightv7.
As I (and others) called it a few months ago, it's the nVidia-"friendly" algos that are getting annihilated. All ASIC territory now.

If you haven't already, you should read the article the CEO from Sia wrote this weekend. Enlightening. I'll try to find it and post a link.

Maybe a part 8 for general discussions ...

Although GPU mining is indeed a sad case with little future upsides... the GPU farms are still profitable with CN7/Monero (AMD), ZEN/ZEC (NVIDIA)... while they still last. The Plan B for NVIDIAs will be Neoscrypt.

No further investments on GPUs for now, and yes - we have made decision to invest more ASICs, Avalons 841s and L3+s mainly due to lower price today.

As long as we still have access to cheap power -- for every satoshis we can accumulate today with GPU or non-GPU miners, coupled with bullish outlook to BTC price - we can still see the pot of gold at then end of the rainbow.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

Is it really in that bad shape?

ETH still seems profitable with most GPUs.

Found out that my old ass Tahitis from the LTC days can use less power than an RX GPU while mining CN.

From the wall using about 120 Watts mining CN at 600h/s. My RX use close to 140 Watt mining ETH.

Not the same profitability but not bad for a 28nm GPU generation.

eth is more profitable for nvida with eth enlargement as well as for rx cards
cryptonite is still below ethereum in profitablity at least for now

yeah keep it going.

if gpu mining is truly hitting the skids, we need a place to discuss ways to prolong the life of what we have, or where to go next (fpga? asic?).

1 rig with 2x470, 460, 1070, 1070ti, 2x1080ti here. never gonna sell em, worse comes to worse some friends get free gpu upgrades and i use the 1080tis for gaming (currently have a 390 for that).
