Tokens and altcoins are similar in a way that they are both cryptocurrencies. But tokens are made from initial coin offerings and can be converted to altcoins. But unfortunately not all tokens will become altcoins.

m0gliE explain well the difference between token and coin. and thanks to share this topic as many newbie were confused and i am sure who read the topic and will definitely satisfied from the thread replies. for more detail i also read the following definition about token in this thread by sir theymos Administrator Legendary must read it .

Tokens are like IOU and it afford one to hold a share in a project that is about to launch or is seeking funds for further development and altcoins is the upgrade of a tokens when listed on an exchange. To get a good token to invest in depends on the research you your self put into finding out about a project and make your own judgement how the project is valued .

Tokens are offered through cryptocurrency initial coin offering (ICO) projects. Tokens become altcoins when they are traded on a cryptocurrency exchange.

     Tokens are assets used through an ICO project (initial coin offer). If they are later asked on the market, they will become altcoins.
