So after 3.5 years I'm getting back into crypto.
I use to mine new alt coins with my 7970 (still in use), and I'm wondering if it's still possible to do so.
Last coin I mined I think was POT coin!
Reasearching now as I'm looking to upgrade GPU so could choose a good one for mining if it's still possible.
Any guides or pointers would be helpfull.
Also looking into asic miners...
Many thanks for reading

You could probably mine equihash coins (such as Zcash) or cryptonight coins (such as Monero and Electroneum) with your current card. Whether or not doing so is worth it is up to you and your power costs.

If you're planning on upgrading, I would look at the Vega 56/64 if you see them available at a decent price. Alternatively, the 1080ti is a good choice if you're set on only mining with only one card. Mid-range cards, such as the RX580/570/480/470 or GTX 1060 may offer better ROI times, but you would sacrifice rig "density" (hashrate, and thus revenue potential, per rig), which is an important consideration for a single-GPU system.

Of course, if you use this system for gaming or anything other than mining, then you have other considerations on top of those.

500W enough to run 2 RX560 gpu in mining, for more effience you can also downvolting cards
With 7970 you can try mine some new not popular altcoins and wait when it dumped

thanks for your answer. actually i have 2 CPUs. one cpu using 500w psu and the other one use 400 nw plus. iam not sure the exact max watt number in my 400 nw plus psu. it said pure psu when i bought it years ago. in my 500w psu it written max 404.8 watt. iam sorry to ask it once again, it's just to make sure before i buy rx560. is it ok to run each rx560 in both of my CPUs?

I use 6x RX550 with a 630W PSU. The hole system just needs ~310W. So you also need no big one for the RX560.

Maybe you can get result from new coin so the difficult still low but it's very long to wait until the price high (If lucky).
Or you can mine "Famous coin" but the income is low

Single GPU mining not worth since "Big player" make the difficult higher, but make the coin price higher

You can mining new coin like ITNS ( cryptonight ) or Pirl ( Ethash ) or another new coin
But, dont sell instantly, just wait until price up and sell Smiley

well i'm so glad to see your information. i mean it. thanks, bro. i can start mining this week because i don't have to buy new psu. i only have money to buy 1 new rx560 for now. i hope it'll work so i can add another gpu next time.

Thanks for taking over my thread man  Grin

I'm not in it for daily profits. I would like to mine and support new coins that I think will do well and hold onto them to build a portfolio as electric isn't an issue at the moment.

Do people still use CG Miner? Any tips getting back set up? Suggestions on coins?

I do use my rig for gaming now and again but not often so not an issue to have it mining.

If whatever you are mining is more profitable than your electricity bill, then why not mine on the side? Will also bring you into the world of mining and understand overclocking, etc. Soon you'll have more GPUs up and running.

There are loads of youtube videos that can get you up and going.

Well It's more like 3$ cos I dont mine alot  Currently mining ZCL  on https://zclassic.miningpoolhub.com  With Claymore AMD miiner  the price of Zclassic is about 95$ atm.
You could maybe earn more if you do more research on what cryptos vs diffilcuty lvl to Mine   mining with Claymore is a bit less stresfull than mining ETH in the old days the core doesent exceed 70 deg.c.

Anyone knows what's best to mine with single GPU??

Best to mine with a single GPU will be the best to mine with any number of GPUs. With AMD I'm not sure the current most profitable. I'll suggest jumping on new coins and mining for a day or 2 and then jumping to the next until they get listed. That way you get quick coins and HODL.
