They  seem  trolling messages... what  are they doing?

Yes, it's still down and nobody knows when it will be back. I'm start thinking of Mercatox = next MtGOX.

But the situation is even worst - HitBTC, one of the big names, is also down from 12 hours and there isn't any recent information when it will be back.

There is no news about merca but you can try to visit the official announcement of the mercatox exchange site in the another section. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1662702.0
Looks a lot of people can'd to anything with it. They are complaining there is a lot of amounts in merca.
My thought that wait a little bit, it may comeback soon.
