Most of us have invested hard earned fiat money and time into trying to make gains in Crypto.  The recent price spikes have validated our enthusiasm for crypto.  We trade, invest long term, stake our coins, study, and wait.  What is really going on here? 

The entire crypto universe is being driven by thieves.  They steal coins from users and from exchanges.  Apparently there is nothing that can be done.  They are free to have their way and there is no limit to what they won't do.  That sounds a lot like taxation.  Criminals are driving crypto, and by investing in crypto, time and energy,  you are helping make rich, people who would steal everything you have and leave you to die in the street.   How many billions in Crypto have been stolen?  The thieves just stake and hold our coins, that they stole, and you still use the coin paying the network fees that go right back to the thieves that took your coins. 

You want sovereign money.  The last thing you want is money that is in a network.  Network money is a really bad idea. You will be robbed and then you will turn around and feed the ones who robbed you in the first place.  It's not right.  At least with fiat there are rules.  There are no rules in Crypto, and by the time rules ever do get put in place, if ever, the criminals will be at the top.

Just because you CAN hack someone's computer and steal their passphrase, doesn't mean that you should. Absolutely agree.  You must remember that bitcoin was established to either participate in illegal activities (remember silk road) or to have a currency for people that did not want to pay taxes.

While they may claim, "this brings power back to the people".  What they really mean is that they want to avoid paying taxes to the federal government, yet they still want to avail of the benefits of others that pay taxes.  Sure they don't want a centralized federal government to tax them, but do they want to drive on the roads paved by that same centralized government?  What about subsidized health care and other handouts that they regularly avail of?

At the end of the day, they're just greedy criminals (yes people who don't pay taxes are criminals) that want to avail of benefits without having to pay for them.

Another thing to remember is that crypto is not worth anything.  It has no intrinsic value.  The only benefit of bitcoin was it's ability to do free transactions which is no longer the case because the founders apparently forgot the underlying economic principle of "there is no free lunch".

Another value of bitcoin was only brought about by it's criminal past when it was being used on the silk road.  It's demand was there only because criminals could not anonymously transact in a sovereign currency.

For doing legal transactions, bitcoin has no value over sovereign currency and with the high transaction costs, it is worthless as a medium of exchange.

As a store of value, it is worth nothing because it doesn't exist (it's only code).

The technology is amazing, not the coin.

Just to be clear, I'm no fan of sovereign currencies either as they technically have no value either as they aren't backed by anything.

If they want to bring power back to the people, then why didn't these people just buy gold, silver, real estate or something that has value in the first place?  Well i'll tell you why, it's because they were broke.  In the physical world they had no assets, so they invented a fake currency or system that would make them feel good even though the system was unsustainable from the start (remember mining was never profitable with actual electricity costs).

Correct, just to think off that this is just like a battlefield. You would really need to buckle up yourself to be protected which my means of setting up stronger security protection of your holdings here on crypto. I shortened the op to main arguments above, so that I can respond. Dear op, that's really sad that you lost your coins, it really is. And it's true lots of us experienced the same thing at least once. I invested in eth when it was worth $16 and lost 60% of it when it was $300, I know what you're talking about. Since that day I don't like ethereum, even though there probably are real reasons to beware of it as well (such as low security of the platform itself). However, I don't think it is the whole world of currencies you should blame. For me this world is mostly the opposite of what you mentioned. There are lots of trusted forum members on this website who lend money or pay the winners of some contests. They don't have a lot of things to risk, since nobody knows who they really are. You can say they lose reputation, though. But there are (or so I heard) honest dealers in the Darknet as well, and these people are supposed to be bad ones. The world of cryptocurrencies in a world of economic freedom, the only one out there in the Universe. It gives a lot of people chances to become rich, prove being worth something and develop new skills.

Just because you can keep your pc/bitcoins more secure, doesn't mean that you shouldn't. Like there's no malwares or trojans that can steal your credit card information. I don’t think we should be judging Bitcoin with what happened to other coins. Every cryptocurrency in the market has its own reputation, and shouldn’t be used to judge others. Bitcoin has been, and it’s still is the best cryptocurrency in the market, with also a good reputation. So I’m not really going to take that, though I’m always careful with everything I do.

I heard the news lately that Hackers steal $530M from Japanese crypto exchange (search google news), and man, that was a history. This is one of my reasons why I have some trust issues in investing in cryptocurrency. They say that no system is safe so we know what that means, every single platform and exchanges can be hacked. I've been looking into USDT a fair bit recently, and it really stinks. At this point I would be a bit surprised if it's not some kind of scam. A lot of the USDT deposits may be legit, but let's assume for a moment the worst case: USDT was created as a scam from the start, and has been slowly leeching BTC from USDT-supporting exchanges; almost none of the $600 million in USDT is from real deposits, but was printed from thin air. If we assume that hypothetical, then what would the effect on the Bitcoin price be?

I suppose that it would be a big negative force, but not as bad as some might fear. Although USDT-supporting exchanges have a lot of volume, I think that there's vastly more money on regulated exchanges like GDAX, and arbitrage between the two won't be possible if USDT is illusory. I think that someone or some group has been trying to manipulate the BTC price by spamming these worries on various social media over the last couple of weeks, which has created some natural pushback against the idea. 1. USDT is printed out of thin air over a long period of time, and there's grumbling about it constantly, but nobody really does anything.
2. Someone looking to affect the BTC price grasps onto the above issue and spams social media about it. Eg. "Check out what this one guy says will crash Bitcoin to $0.01, you won't believe what this company did!".
3. Due to the spam, a USDT bank run starts, but USDT runs out of actual money.
4. To buy time, USDT creates the "theft transaction" as an inside job. This creates an excellent and essentially irrefutable excuse for stopping further withdrawals.

Right. Everyone's talking about getting big losses and how crypto is unstable or a bubble but mostly, these people are those that don't do their homeworks before investing. Some ICO's are worth investing for and this is why many investors are still coming despite of negative news about ICO. I feel the best thing is just to try every means to stay careful and secured in this world. Well I think that you don't need to be a millionaire to start trading in crypto.
The bigger the capital you have the more you can invest(and have a potential to profit) but on the other hand the risk of losing is higher.
That's normal philosophy in any kind of market trading.

Your advice is good but I think it's useless, because it seems like he has decided to leave crypto. things like that often happen and those who are not strong enough to deal with bad things will make it a good reason to leave crypto

Look, I know you are just frustrated maybe because you experienced the hacked thing before, but that doesn't necessarily mean that will be the main reason why we should not invest in cryptocurrency. If you are afraid your coins will gonna get by thieves, then secured them. Set 2fa, or make a paper wallet, go get some hardware wallets, or if you can afford that microchip then much better.

We really need valid Ids to withdraw our cryptos in fiat so how criminals can use their crypto? Unless they have relatives and make withdraw for them. And about the thieves? If you just keep your private key very well no one can steal it.

And during this process some will win and some will inevitably lose. Some will use fair methods of competition, and some will steal, scam and otherwise violate commonly accepted morals.

But its happening everywhere. You made some money on crypto , you were not competitive or smart enough, someone more fit and more efficient stole the coins from you. My condolences, but it was your fault. Freedom comes at a cost.

As for the safety and all. The FDIC covers you only for a share of your deposit in your bank. And if you think that banks are safe, talk to the people who had their deposits in Cyprus. If you think that investing in private venture is safe, talk to the people who invested in |Theranos.

I don't see any reason for not investing in crypto. There are many day traders here in crypto world. Do you think most of them are not buying cryptos? I don't think so, because if some of them are getting profit on a day trade activity, it means they are buying potential crypto in the market and trading is the most effective way for us to get profit.

KYC is needed for local exchangers, and this can reduce the concerns that have been circulating so far, namely money loundry, narcotics, etc. hopefully the government understands it and provides policies that support cryptocurrency. and about the wallet, it's actually safe, as long as we don't do carelessness. fiat money even if we are careless will certainly harm us
