This is just another random fork that has nothing to do with bitcoin cash or the bitcoin devs.

Yeah it took me almost half a day of researching just to find out that this fork is no way related to bitcoin cash nor the original devs of bitcoin, this fork is not even created to improve the current bitcoin network and this fork has no advantages to the bitcoin project at all, I don't even know why some people are so stoked that it's happening. That's why no popular medium outlets are hyping up this fork because this fork is not even legit, most people are calling this new forked coins a scam coin. I even thought that most exchanges are supporting this fork but in reality just two sites are supporting it and that's hitbtc and yobit, it's a shame that I sold almost a quarter of my altcoins just to receive this new fork coin but then after the fork I realized that the exchange that I'm currently using doesn't even support this fork, tsk tsk I guess lesson learned lol always research before doing something important lol.

This will be a good development. Lets see how how it plays out.

This is a bad development.  Did you read what they are doing?  If you do not have active bitcoins (active according to their rules which means sent from one address back to the same address between early Nov and early Dec OR between early Dec and early Jan) AND you submit your transaction ID to their web site (effectively identifying you by IP and potentially tying your coins together) YOUR scam-coins will be deemed "inactive" and "redistributed" (stolen).

Anyone who falls for this nonsense or supports this fork shows their true colors: ready to steal from "inactive" users to enrich themselves.  Pretty much the opposite of the bitcoin premise.

This is not the original Segwit2x, but someone hijacking the name and making the proposal even worse than the original.

This is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard - basically they want to get ALL of their pseudo bitcoins for themselves and still pretend they get some value. LoL.

Why are people calling this a random fork?

This was actually a huge topic of debate amongst miners and btc communities since last summer.
Consensus was reached with people backing out at the last minute which made segwit not go through.

Now, they implemented it to very little fanfair because people are tired of the entire fork drama.

But the thing is, btc does need to be fixed.
We do need a fork that the vast majority of the community can agree on because btc is becoming unusable.
Who on earth wants to pay a $20 fee and wait an hour for it to be confirmed?

The major problem is, miners make TONS of money by bitcoin being unscalable.
They throw out things like, "Oh! We want to keep the original tech decentralized!"
Well, btc is not decentralized as long as miners can manipulate the community into not accepting a fork that will benefit btc in the long run.

Now, it is a lost opportunity cause no one will accept segwit, even if it can help btc's scaling issues.
