I also forgot that not every kid is a bad kid and will find Silk Road

If I were 16 and just learning about Bitcoin because someone (parents?) gave me some "pocket money" in Bitcoin, there's no question that I'd find out what Silk Road is. There's too much information about it and a simple Google search will bring up at least a few pages that mention it. Personally, my curiousity would get the best of me and I'd download Tor just to take a look at it and see what it's all about regardless of whether or not I wanted to buy drugs with my money.

Would I buy anything there? Probably not. Assuming I also had cash (or someone willing to buy my BTC for cash), if I wanted drugs it would probably be a lot easier for me to buy them at school.. not to mention safer, I wouldn't have to worry about parents wondering what this package was that I got in the mail or maybe some machine or drug sniffing dog in some postal facility finding it.

I did a quick search and found MANY sites offering video games for Bitcoins so it could work out very well in fact.

Not all kids are gamers, but for a lot of teens I'd think this is where they'd probably be spending most of their BTC.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I would do this considering kids already spend most of their money on toys/games/gift items.

I already do this. And my kids are still pretty young 9, 7, and 5.

They see what we accomplish with Bitcoin on a daily basis, so for them, equating the value is not hard.

What we need, is an app that would let you assign btc values to chores and tasks and would be like a personal bank account system for kids that their parents could monitor. They have versions of this concept that you just assign an arbitrary amount to that don't use bitcoin at all. Adding bitcoin to the concept would bring it full circle

I run Sean's Outpost a Bitcoin fueled homeless outreach in Pensacola, FL. Over 140,000 meals fed with BTC donations. You can donate to Sean's Outpost at... 38ccq12hPFoiSksxUdr6SQ5VosyjY7s9AU

Just because they can easily find it doesn't mean they'll go on it, I'm getting tired of just how patronising and arrogant a lot of adults are when it comes to children, they're far more intelligent than they give them credit for, in a lot of cases they're going to be more intelligent than the adults. Don't make the mistake of thinking because they can't express themselves very well yet that they're stupid, most children I know of would never bother with something like Silkroad or even gambling sites.

That said, any adult I have to tell this to never gives a fuck to begin with and insists they need to lord over them for their own safety.

Have kid then try to redeem it
Watch with amusement as they try then forget

10 years later
Kid finds it
Bitcoin is worth a lot more win  Cheesy

Believing in Bitcoins and it's ability to change the world

Did you actually read my post before taking two sentences out of context and trying to make them look like they meant the exact opposite of what I said?

If I were 16 and given Bitcoin, I would definitely find out about Silk Road and I would probably look.. but I would't buy anything there. (bolded since that was my actual point that you obviously missed)

I doubt most teens would buy anything there, for a few reasons:

1) Not all teens are into drugs, if I had to guess I'd say most probably aren't, if drugs being readily available were going to change that then every teen who goes to school would already be addicted to crack.
2) Most teens who are into drugs try to hide it from their parents. If they bought on SR instead of on the streets or at school, how are they going to explain these packages they're getting in the mail when their parents ask?
3) Why the f*** would you buy illegal drugs online and have them shipped to you in the mail? Maybe I know better (and knew better at 16) than most kids do since my dad worked for the post office.. but buying illegal drugs through the mail is a horribly stupid idea. You're just begging to get busted.

this is actually a good idea - it will teach delayed gratification for a potentially greater reward

as long as there is a big marketplace to buy products with bitcoin, they will find ways to use it and play with it

Hmm, seems cute to give your kids bitcoins, but maybe more along the lines of an investment than pocketmoney.  I remember my grandma giving me a 10 year usgov't bond when I was young.  Some kinda thing where I was going to be able to cash out 100$ in 10 years or something.  If you gave your kid 1BTC and explained that if the price rose to $1000 .... (just wait and watch, etc).
