I really like anime and manga aesthetics. I sort of envision most of my characters like that. I kind of want to hire this artist Michèle that I worked with before. She does some nice vector stuff and has good rates (including commercial licensing!):

The vector pieces used with Michèle's vector style would be usable to make vector based video games.

I really like the idea of that. If I were a programmer, I would definitely make a little PC game for this project. Choosing the right artwork could leave teh door open for the future.

White City Press release…
Housed on an island just off the west coast, the White City has been abandoned for sixty years. After a plague killed hundreds of new students at a prestigious new school and a gruesome string of murders scared the rest of the population away, the city has stood abandoned and decaying.

Recently, an exciting new group of architects called "The Wondersmith Collective" has volunteered to help re-imagine the city into an urban paradise. Promising state-of-the-art technology, the group is backed by a hefty sponsorship from a leading technology company.

The group will strive to maintain the historic infrastructure of the city, while outfitting it with the latest p2p technology. The city will feature a prototype of the newly introduced digital currency, a freely accessible network, a variety of tended food gardens, and an artificial intelligence to run the systems.

The artificial intelligence, named "Edyn", is promised to be hacker-proof through engaging the world's foremost hackers in a competition staged in the White City itself. The hackers will compete with the artificial intelligence, who will be running in beta as if the city were filled with citizens, to perform a series of tasks and see if they can sabotage her operations. With the promise of cash, prizes, and fame, the Collective hopes to engage their would-be adversaries as contributors to the project.

The members of "The Wondersmith Collective" invite all parties interested in challenging Edyn to get in contact with them.

One of the fun things about writing for the near future is I get to include a lot of nifty gadgets that in reality would take a long time to play with. For example, Edyn is the artificial intelligence that is installed in the White City to handle the day-to-day processing. Not really on the horizon yet, but fun to imagine.

Google glass is something else that I'd like to play with. I'm imagining all the hackers that sign up having some neat glasses that display stats, their progress in the game, information about their opponents, objects, etc. It would even be neat to outfit the city itself with some good, interactive monitors instead of the standard, which is having the artificial intelligence project itself out in physical reality.

Each of these families suffered great tragedy during the Fall of Lu Min Academy when sixty years ago, the White City’s most prestigious school was struck by a plague that feeds off strong magicians. The resulting fever claimed hundreds of students who then in their delirium killed hundreds of other students and teachers. Only a few dozen individuals survived. Among them were the seeds of what would become the next generation of cultural heavy-hitters.

In the desert that followed the massacre of the most talented minds of a generation, the general populace was suffering from a drastic drop in quality of life. They feared using magic for fear of the return of the plague but it had become so woven into the fabric of their lives that even some of the most basic tasks became huge feats. Four families with ambition and vision rose up and technology stepped in to take over where magic left off. Previously a desert, the technology sector took off as people turned to new innovations to perform the tasks they had always relied upon magic for. Over the last sixty years, the industry has boomed and no one has profited more than the commonly called Four Moon Families.

Now, in their quest to push the boundaries and continue imagining the future, individuals of these four families have joined together to create “The Wondersmith Collective”, a group that will revitalize the beloved White City into a habitable place again.

Promising state-of-the-art technology from their various companies, The Wondersmith Collective hopes to create a jewel of modern living, combining the latest in robotics, digital currency, and artificial intelligence to create a utopia to help heal the pain of a generation lost.

“It is our desire,” shares Priya, representative of the Black Moon company she created with her brother, “to heal some of the deep-seated pain this city represents. By sharing our technologies and offering them freely for others to use, it is our desire to usher in a new age of prosperity and co-operation for our people.”
