When someone buys and receives A3, tell us more about it, so that everyone can understand its real profitability and payback

I received my first A3 last Monday January 22, income was $500+ on that day,  today exactly 7 days later income is about $37/day. I bought 3, later 2 received on Janury 25. 3 A3s combined made enough SC coins to pay off the 1st one.

same here.  on saturday 1/27 it was around $90 and has gone down around $20 every day to about $40 for my last 24hr on siamining.  i switched it to luxor for a little bit yesterday and it seemed to have the same results as on siamining.

800$ coupon for a 980$ miner, they pretty much give obelisk's customers a free miner.

980$ for a new product also mean that bitmain expect a profitability close to zero pretty soon.

It is absolutely obvious that Bitmain is trying to force a Fork so that they can commandeer the old coin after the fork. There is NO doubt about it.

Interesting thought. In any case, they are taking over, fork or no fork. Sia lost all credibility with their threat, act or STFU.

The SIA team announced they wanted to move to ASIC's and forked SIA coin to get it ready for ASIC's. In doing this and by not providing any additional requirements of vendors as a condition of the network participation, they announced to the industry "please make an ASIC miner to mine our coin". To everyone's surprises one of the largest producers of miners in the world, produces a miner and starts selling direct to home miners with a one unit limit. The SIA community got exactly what they asked for and now want to go back and change the rules and even exclude this miner producing company's customers from ever participating in the POW network in the future.

Anyone who purchased an obelisk would be stupid to not take a coupon if available. I would go as far as to say obelisk should get some sort of partnership agreement going to establish a long term relationship, as bitmain is moving into the AI and deep learning space which would be very well suited to the SIA project.

The issue of forcing a fork is a none issue for me as the SIA project only has to recognize the SIA coin of their choosing as being usable for the SIA project. They can put any restriction they like on the coin used as part of the project while no impacting the overall focus of the project, which is to provide a distributed cloud storage platform.

Bitmain hasn't done anything wrong or sneaky. They have done what any company would do in any market. They produced the produce they are good at producing and did it in a shorter time frame than anyone else.

Well said.  The only thing I am a bitter about is the significant price difference between the first batch of A3 miners ($2,375) and the recent batch they are trying to unload in mid-March ($980).  Bitmain is clearly the leader in the ASIC mining space, but the combination of their pricing practices, poor customer support, and general tone in their purchasing/return policies paint a nasty picture.

How can a company justify such a massive price decrease with a straight face?  I give them a little credit (very little) for balancing it with the vouchers they are offering to the Obelisk holders, but what about the folks that ordered the first batch and haven't even seen their miner arrive yet?  They essentially have 45 days to make $30 per day ($1,350) followed by months of making $10-15 per day at best.  Bitmain's behaviors can only induce rage.

There are only two winners here:
- those who were lucky to get the Antminer A3 within days of it being released and were able to cover more than half the costs in the first week back when it was earning $100-$500 per day

- Bitmain

You must not pay attention to their pricing.  If can fluctuate dramatically.  In November you could order a S9 for $1200-1400, now they are $2400.  $980 is about right for the A3 in 2 months.  Obelisk will probably have their miners out early and difficulty will skyrocket.  Keep in mind that the Obelisk also uses about half of the electricity.

Agreed, the price change does sting a bit but this is how the game works.

I was one of the lucky ones, my order paid time was 2018-01-17 14:31:57 but still got my miner shipped 3 days after some. I was up and running 1 day after Vosk and have half the returns he got. I have seen people post order times after my order and they shipped before me. The only difference seemed to be UPS vs Fedex. I'll use fedex for batch 1 from now on.

It is absolutely obvious that Bitmain is trying to force a Fork so that they can commandeer the old coin after the fork. There is NO doubt about it.

Interesting thought.  Possible, but I sort of doubt Bitmain has any interest in developing the project.   SIA only has real value as a cloud storage project.  I doubt that they have capability even,,,, no dev team or interest.

What a fuster cluck.
Remember, Bitmian's current darling project is Sophon. What is Sophon? Sophon is an AI based protocol. What does AI use the most of? Data. Lots of it. What does Sia do? Decentralized data. These coins are like shares in a company. Control the shares and you control the company, Think about it. Maybe not so far fetched.

thats scary to think, if they succeed in forcing out the current dev team with all the $$ they have from selling worthless heaters and mining with the heaters for months before they sell them they could easily fund a new dev team of thier own.  That beings said this sounds somwhat far feteched

I am not aware of any other decentralized cloud storage project in the cryptosphere besides SIA.

I would almost speculate the other way.... that Bitmain's hedge fund financiers influenced them to undercut the SIA team/project,,,, all on behalf of the cloud storage titans, ie. Google, MSFT, Amazon.   Hope SIA team does not think that they (along with a bunch of hobbyists with a NAS) can just walk in and steal the market from these titans without a fight.  They have a difficult road ahead.  We can only hope that with all of the added attention, SC sees $0.10+ by summer otherwise plenty of A3s & Oblesisks will be mothballed.

Long term, A3 can be expected to do "as well" as L3 & S9 are doing at the moment.  L3 & S9 are in range of $250-350/mo at the moment.  Currently, the A3 looks like it will be doing $30/day for the next 50 days or so then maybe $10/day after March.  Still not bad.

Long term, if the project is successful, I see SC at $0.20-$0.60 range within 2-3 years.  That part is speculation of course.

yeah, well as this point it is pure speculation.
however the drop in a3 profitability is staggering. I got L3's early on, and they were VERY profitable for a while, hasnt dropped nearly as fast as a3's....

What are you surprised about? You have to be happy that only 10K batch 1 A3 was sold.

If you didnt know this is how much you will be mining with a A3 on day 7 or later, you probably didnt do much research before buying

Read my other post about how difficulty will go down and how you will mine twice of what you are mining now

I can promise you that after the next batches hit the network, daily profit will be around $2.50. Like the D3 is today. People keep forgetting.....this is ONE COIN. The X11 network was already dangerously thin and it contains several coins. This one.....not so much.

It depends on how many they sell on batch 2. If they sell same amount of batch 1, I am pretty sure it will be way better than $2.5. More like $15-$20 or better if sia stays at 0.03 to 0.04.

I just ran my first 24 hr period on siamining, and payout is right at 1000 SC.
Whats the probability of finding a block at the current difficulty if I were to solomine with the A3?  Would it be worth a shot?

Simple probability. Your chances are 1 in 10,000.

So Batch 1 sent daily profit from $500.00 to $40.00 and difficulty from 650 TH to 11,561,001 TH, and you think another batch of the same magnitude will only knock $20.00 a day off the current profitability?Huh Um....ok.....if you say so.  Roll Eyes

Say there are 10K miners fighting for 144 blocks a day and make $40 worth coins a day. 20k miners will make $20. Why do you think I am wrong? Lol

I don't think you're " wrong " per say, I just think that, while I applaud your optimism, I have seen this movie before. Keep in mind that Bitmain runs one of the largest mining farms in the world. The 10k would indeed be nice. I'm just jaded and skeptical. I am 100% convinced that Bitmain has a "long game" plan here with SIA. Part of that is to control as much of the coin as humanly possible. E.g.; BCH. This little protocol fits very well into Bitmain's future plans in AI. Cloud Storage is a Holy Grail for their long term plans.

You might be right. It sounds reasonable and within realm of possibility.  What do oldtimers say around here??......"Mine on".    I am relative newb, but I am sure BTC experienced the same thing multiple times.  Those that mined on and held their coins came out alright.
