Hello.

I'm trying to run a dedicated Bitcoin node through my Tor Relay on a Windows Server.

How can I ensure I limit or stop IRC connectivity properly and restrict the number of connected nodes to about 10 ?

I've read the wiki, but its not so clear. What lines exactly should I add to a bitcoin.conf ? That should go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin right ?

I've tried a few settings and even correctly mapped some Tor .onion addresses in the Torrc . I don't mind connecting to only .onion address or external IPs

I will happily list my .onion address when its configured properly.

Thanks.

In bitcoin.conf:
noirc=1
maxconnections=10

"Maxconnections" only affects outgoing connections, however. You can't limit incoming connections currently.

Bitcoin.conf is in the same directory as wallet.dat. This is %APPDATA%\Bitcoin on Windows. Usually this expands to C:\Users\you\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin.

You can also specify the options on the command-line like this:

You would set:
"...bitcoin.exe" -noirc -maxconnections=10

Right that's simple enough then.

Eventually figured bitcoin.conf must be C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application data\BitCoin

Had started messing around with the daemon and was getting confused.

Not boot strapping IRC wont cause any connectivity issues then ?

"addr - Provide information on known nodes of the network. Non-advertised nodes should be forgotten after typically 3 hours"

For example; when using maxconnections=10 would I still need to specify a default addnode=192.0.2.X list ?

Thanks again

No. You'll connect to a seednode to get bootstrapped. Then you'll advertise your node with addr broadcasts.

Thanks once more for your help theymos.

That's eliminated all error messages with Tor. Now have a stable set number of connections mostly within .onion land  Grin

Our Bitcoin node should be up 24/7 except for an occasional server restart.
