Hello! I have a question. I have B85M-DS3H-A motherboard and I was wondering if I could use the 1x pci slots with pci riser and connect gpu to that? Would it work? Would I loose performance?

yes thats for mining. Can you link me some good but cheap riser? it needs to be shippable to EU.

Be careful and watchful in finding risers for GPUs because not all cheap risers are durable and sturdy enough to hold the GPU for mining, also be wary on the shipping  fee  as it may cost more than your item purchased.  Undecided

Aliexpress and Ebay has all the risers you need. Make sure they are atleast ver 006 or above and riser power connections are 6pin to SATA.
Risers in first link and third link are good, take these. Don't touch Molex risers.

Thanks. So Molex is bad? Can it break the gpu?. And didnt even know there exists different versions like you said to take atleast version 006.

And 1 question, if I use the riser which is powered by 6 pin connector do I still need the normal power connection that is used for gpus?

I use some 6 PIN Pofo risers I got from amazon.de. The brand of course does not matter. The power connection (or connections in case of 2 or 3 connectors, like for 1080Ti) to the GPU must be made anyway.

I have several Molex risers and it doesn't give me any problems

Yeah, nothing 'wrong' with molex risers. Just older design, so don't pay top money for them. Also molex connectors are horrible to seat properly.
Worth considering your PSU - very safe having 6pin risers, but not so clever if you run out of cables.

The risers fitted with the 6 pin power connector only get +12V from the connector so need an on board regulator to produce the +5V needed by the GPU. The 6 pin type is best suited for when you have a separate power supply for the GPU's as there is then no possibility of connecting 2 different power supplies to the GPU at once. The 6 pin types have more components on them to give the +5V supply and therefore have more scope for failure.

I have 6 pins connected to the GPU and 6 pins connected to the riser, would you rather advise to have risers with molex connectors ? Is the 6 + 6 setup less stable?

Nonsense. PCI-E GPU's only use 12V, which is what the PCI-E specification calls for. Up to 75 W though the PCI-E slot, 75 W through the 6-pin and 150 W through the 8-pin VGA power inputs. The voltage regulator on the 6-pin risers stabilizes the the 12V line to prevent spikes. It is NOT a transformer to convert 12V to 5V.

If you look at the pin connections of a PCI-e slot you will see that it also needs a +3.3V supply (I was wrong saying 5V it is 3.3V). All the 6 pin risers I have seen have more components fitted than the molex types. I can only think that it is easier to derive the 3.3V from a 5V line than it is from a 12V line.
