Long time reader and first time poster, like many other's I am sure.

Been interested in Bit/ALT-Coins for some time but am now really putting in the effort to learn/do more.

Interested in all aspects from Wallet, Mining, Economics and Industries evolving like light speed.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and let me know if your in Houston and are interested in setting up a Meet Up. Just got back from the Austin Bitcoin meetup and it was a great time.

Which part of Houston are you in?
I am in medical center area next to Reliant Park.

I have been paying attention to this particular forum for quite awhile now. I even went ahead, bought some bitcoins yesterday...and purchased a phone unlocking service with it (from wtfvanity). I think the anonymous aspect of bitcoin is quite attractive. It is like paying things in cash, remotely...without revealing your name etc. Still, like all other services, I am a little put off with the network trasaction fee involved in sending BTC to another party. I don't see why 0.0001 BTC is needed in the first place... LocalBitcoins talked about the fee going towards mining services... just who in the end actually gets that money is rather curious to me.

imagine bitcoin as a bank. banks have servers they pay for so that they can have a fast and secure network, right? how does bitcoin get better encryption than any bank and fast transaction speeds? the way bitcoin does this is by allowing people to provide their computing power and internet connection to the bitcoin backend. in return they get small amounts of bitcoin, or more if they are providing a lot. this is called mining. your transaction fee went to someone that was helping your transaction go through quickly and securely.
