Cavirtex to Multibit transfer question

I am brandnew to BTC and I recently got a cavirtex account, bought some bitcoins and now am trying to transfer them to my Multibit 0.5.13 wallet but it apperas as if nothing is happening.

Here is what I did:
- opened my virtex account and deposited cash
- bought some BTC
- installed multibit 0.5.13
- created a wallet
- went to the request tab and got my 35 character address
- went to cavirtex and sent BTC to that address

This was about 20 hours ago and nothing is appearing in multibit. It is 'online' and the blockchain is incrementing and it matches the public blockchains.

- Am I missing something here?
- Do I just need to wait longer?
- Is there any way to validate the transfer is in progress?
- Does the multibit client need to remain open while waiting for the transaction to complete or can I close it?
