Stop loss indeed, it is always best to protect any profit that you have gained besides should the market break out again you can always buy back at the first instance. But yes always be aware of the high and thenlows of the altcoins you are investing that way you know where to pull out.

If your coins are in a loss the only option left for you is to hold and wait for the market to recover. As you said in your post that you are newbie and don't know much about the market, So I will not recommend you to do any experiment with you coins because newbie get loss by doing some experiments with their coins like sell now and buy more low and suddenly coin goes up and they get more loss. So it better to just wait for the recovery of the market.

I am a relative newbie but have remained pretty calm during the difficult last week or so. The markets are falling significantly again, is this still relatively normal and is the best advice just to HODL? Moving forward I think I will set stop losses on all holdings to protect my capital against falls like this.

Personally, I do not adhere to any special tactics. My secret in working in this case is quite simple - in the period of low prices, I just keep holding my reliable coins, which have good potential for development and price increase in the future. Also, I usually invest part of free money in the purchase of the best altcoins.

With the long time of bearish market of cryptocurrency theres no other good tactics but to HODL and wait for the right time for the expected bullish this coming December. According to what i experienced when the market fell. We should sell and buy the Altcoins in a short time. If this is in  january on the last week this is the time to get really alarmed and soon by this time it will fall tremendesously and you've lost so much now if you hodl. It's always better to have a plan than to just keep being hopeful. Stay objective all the time as possible.

agree . we should prefer to hold rather than selling or trading because the market is down at the first place therfor we cannot still earn a profit instead we can only loose but if ever we need a cash then that is the time that we should sell some coins no matter what it is the status of current market . another best tactic when the market is falling is buying a coin , we can buy more coins because their value is more cheaper and we can do it while we keep on hodling our previous assets .

In future I think I will sell out some of my holdings at a certain point and use the cash  to buy more coins at a cheaper price to take advantage when the markets rise again.

I think what you have said is that it has become a tactic or a general strategy for investors to do when the market falls now, of course, with considerable confidence and patience in investing.
