I do agree in your strategy. Actually, we are have the same tactics on what we gonna do when the market dipping to low day to day. For me,  I consider it as a blessing wherein i can bought many altcoins for an affordable price and invest to have great profits as well.

I am a relative newbie but have remained pretty calm during the difficult last week or so. The markets are falling significantly again, is this still relatively normal and is the best advice just to HODL? Moving forward I think I will set stop losses on all holdings to protect my capital against falls like this.

Personally, in order to reduce the risk, I set the minimum prices that the market reaches in order to start buying the coins profitably - after all, they will start to grow again over time.
