This is gonna sound noobish. But I'm new to mining. I dont have mining hardware & I dont intend on buying it. So I was wondering I I could mine XTL on a laptop? And is there anyone here mining XTL on your laptop using an advanced graphics card?
Yes, you could mine some for fun using your laptop, but it depends on what hashrate you can get. you may not get many coins. Buying may be cheaper currently. However, for learning and in particular for fun, yo can try it out. Just click to a pool like community pool or crytponight pool and you should find a “start”. From there, yo can find the instruction of how to mine. Basically, you need to download a wallet to create an address which you will use to receive your coins. You then need to download a mining software which is suitable to your laptop (with CPU or maybe plus GPU) to mine. Try it out for fun. Out of interest, is it really a good choice to mine from your laptop that you also use for doing your work? Isn't mining a very resource intense process and could blow your processor if you do it for a while? Xmr stak is not using more than 70 % of the cpu power. Plus one core and one tread is not being used,or at-least prop config you should have it disabled for mining . So if you do excel or word 24/7 its ok. Now rendering and editing forget it , if that's the case you could set it up to mine automatically when not used .

Back up your wallet. Close your wallet. Reinstall wallet. Replace wallet.dat by your backup file. Reopen wallet and let it sync (take few minutes)

Simply run stellite-wallet-cli and it will guide you through importing your wallet with the seed that you hold.

Do you want to backup the blockchain? I don't entirely understand what you're trying to do. If you're talking about keeping your balance on the wallet, just save the mnemonic seed somewhere safe and you will always be able to recover the wallet in the future.

jesus...cryptoknight.cc is currently finding about 15 blocks a minute...that's a rate of over 400 million coins per day...hope this thing gets sorted out soon or some idiot is going to end up w/ 90% stake in a worthless coin
Yes, it reached more than 30 MH for a while to take a large amount of coins while the network hash is only less than 3 MH. It is really very bad. It can make this coin getting to 1 sat, but no one wants to buy. Even if this happened for a short time window it destroys the value of a coin so hard. That dude could dump loads and make every single buy order disappear. Yes. That is exactly why they decided to do an emergency hard-fork with a better difficulty algorithm. Now everything works perfectly! Ok but was a major part of the total supply still mined during the early phase due to the difficulty adjustment problems or not?

The difficulty was not exploited until a few days prefork.

Out of interest, is it really a good choice to mine from your laptop that you also use for doing your work? Isn't mining a very resource intense process and could blow your processor if you do it for a while? It's your own choice. I do it for fun when I'm not using my laptop. As long as the CPU is properly cooled you'll be fine. That’s what I said for fun, not for profit. It really depends on what you have. There are also some softwares or setting methods via google, which can be used to control the use of your processors (e.g. limited below 60% running). This can be good to protect your laptop without overheat. Of course, you need to do it very carefully in the beginning, making sure your laptop is not overheat and is properly cooled. That's what I thought. My laptop is very hot often times so I don't think it would be very smart to also use it for mining.

I think CPU mining generates less heat compared to GPU mining on my laptop. On the other hand, my crappy AMD GPU tends to generate heat regardless

CryptoNightV7 ??
Asic?
We are currently testing CryptoNightV7 and if it feels bulletproof on test-net we will immediately schedule a hard fork to retain ASIC resistance.
