MemoryCoin needs a logo and startup screen.
https://github.com/memorycoin/memorycoin/blob/fasterstarup/src/qt/res/images/splash.png
https://github.com/memorycoin/memorycoin/blob/fasterstarup/src/qt/res/icons/bitcoin.png
https://github.com/memorycoin/memorycoin/blob/fasterstarup/src/qt/res/icons/bitcoin.ico

I wanted to run the contest on Design Outpost, but they don't accept Bitcoin yet. Anyway, the rules will run similarly - here's some examples if you're not familiar -
http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9

Post your entries here, I'll provide feedback, and I expect other users will too. You can amend your entry as you get feedback, and you can submit as many designs as you like. The contest ends when I'm satisfied we've got a good logo and startup screen.

Prize is $100 USD put up by the MemoryCoin Foundation and paid in Bitcoin. Exchange rate to be determined at time of payment.

MemoryCoin is named for three reasons.
1. Money is memory
2. The hash is memory access intensive.
3. Brainwallets are a feature of all cryptocurrencies - but later we'll be emphasizing this in MC - to remind users they can store their balances with a memory pass phrase if they wish.

Those are fairly disparate reasons, all tied together by the idea of memory.

Note: If you can't post here because you haven't been approved, entries will be accepted here too -

Thanks Menace - I like the three solid bars for the M. It's a nice simple symbol and could symbolize stability (columns) or wealth (gold bars). They could be memory chips (black) or the contacts on memory chips (gold). Also I like the 'U' shaped hole on the edge of a memorychip (I'm not sure what it is called) but it is very recognizable as a part of a memory chips.

I don't like the intricate design at the top and bottom - they are fine for the startup screen, but I think a logo should be a fair simple symbolic design.

As for colours, I think the colours of a memory chip are good place to start, dark green, black and gold.

Thanks - For the logo, I like the simplicity of it, and I like the colours, but it doesn't represent anything to me - it's just the letter M.

For the startup screen - the schematic of a memory board is a good idea.

Thanks for the entry - For the logo, I like the gold colour, but not the grey. Also I don't think the chip schematic is suitable for a logo - it's needs to be simpler and symbolic.

I like the startup screen better, but not the font so much.

I find these all a bit foreboding - I find the 3 lines evocative of prison bars (maybe because they are long and close together) and the U looks like an entrance to a sort of mountain fortress. Also for colors - not sure I like two shades of green, or two shades of grey. I think two or three different colors works better for a logo.

I think this one has too much intricate detail for a logo, and the shades of similar colour means the M doesn't stand out. I think we need something more symbolic.

Thanks - looks nice, but doesn't really communicate anything to me - doesn't add to my understanding of what MemoryCoin is. Also I don't think gradients have any place in logos. For me, logos are symbols, shapes and solid colors.

the piece puzzle is clearly linked to "memory"
Is a "play on words" But I think it will be easily imprinted with the image in the mind

each a puzzle piece is not worth anything .. while more pieces have value
The simbolism is in all
I hope you understand because my English is very bad ..
the symbolism is in any shape .. The M, in the circle, in the colors .. but I can not express it well writing in English : (I hope you like it .. in the case will develop all possible combinations ( as the standard of images to bitcoin... "memorycoin accepted here")

Here's one.

Logo:

Banner:

As you can see in the banner - I've based the concept on the three stages of memory - This is represented by the three interlocking circles.

Can make adjustments to suit.

Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how similar memory (human and computer) is to a cryptocoin, with the encoding, storage and retrieval being synonymous with storing and retrieving encoded/encrypted coins.

Thanks. The Venn diagram is a nice symbol, but it seems to represent the number 3 and overlap, which are not concepts for the coin.

That was the idea behind the concept - The 3 stages of memory which overlap in cycles - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory - with those three stages of memory being the same as storing and retrieving virtual wealth.

However, It is your logo contest Cheesy If it doesn't click with you, then so be it.

Ok - I think we'll run this for another 48hrs and then close it. We'll have a new client soon and I want to include the new logo, so get your entries in before 48hrs from the date of this post.

n.b. we've had some crazies attacking MemoryCoin and me personally in the past few days - they might show up here. Please ignore them.

The MemoryCoin price has suffered in the past few days, so i want to be clear about the prize fund - MCF is holding funds in Bitcoin to meet it.

The website is here,
http://memorycoin.org/foundation/

The prize funds are held at address

Here are several variations on the same concept.

Here's my submission. I went for more of a focus on the brain wallet aspect in terms of memory as that's a feature you want to highlight in the future. The primary image is contrasted using circuitry with a fading gradient for the hardware aspect of cryptocoins. I tried to keep it simple without clutter or distractions.

If interested I'm able to change anything to fit exactly what you're looking for, and not what I think it should look like. Wink

Thanks - I like the idea and symbolism of a memory key - but I think the execution falls a bit short . . I think you'd need to merge the brain and key in some way to simplify the concept . . putting the key in the empty space of a brain is a bit too basic.

Could we get some input on the new additions?  Time is running out and I not sure exactly what you want.

Thanks for your entries - I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. I can see what you're going for, but they don't capture my imagination.

I'm just conflicted here.  I tried to follow all your input in the thread, but I just have no idea what you want.  You want simplicity, but also something that captures your imagination.  To me that can't be done without more detail, but you have made it clear you don't want detail.  Bah.

I'll try to think of something else.

Edit:  Eh, never mind.  I would just go with muddied's stuff personally.  In particular his last logo seems to be the cleanest and most iconic.

Looks like it belongs in the title of an edgy comic.  I think it looks pretty cool, but it doesn't fit the concept.

Ok, the 48 hours has expired and the competition is closed. This is the winner. It's simple, strong, symbolic, clear and memorable. I think we've got one of the best alt coin logos here.

Thanks for your work on this Senj, could you put together a start up screen graphic, and put together the files required as outlined in the first post. Also please post the Bitcoin address that you'd like to receive the prize at.

Thanks to everybody who entered designs and also to those who commented and gave feedback.
