Here I read a lot about how to get merit, I've been on bitcointalk for a long time, I must admit I'm lazy to read and now I feel sorry for my own actions. from a bad experience and I don't want to repeat it again so I will learn how to get rewards, hopefully in the future I can get rewards.

you will definitely have to spend some time and work to write/create helpful/informative posts or threads. also some knowledge of the topics and also research would help you. i would suggest you to join the discussion in several threads and maybe (if you help someone) get your first merits.

You will have a pointer when you disable signatures, avatars for a year, only then you can really know, though there is no point doing that, because *we already know.
We can have a glimpse of what would the forum be like without paid-for signatures in the Serious Discussion/Ivory Tower where signatures are disabled. Not completely dead but way less active than the rest of the forum. Then there's the Wall Observer mega-thread with even >100 posts a day, often memes and shitposts despite also having disabled signatures. So it's not like there's a clear division between paid-for posters and serious contributors.

You can get merit very easily. You have to work hard for that. If you can post some coletifull and post some information and go to different threads and solve many problems that many people have. You can earn merit. And I think your account rank will increase along with earning merit.

I would say if you are lazy to read then it would be hard for you to get merits as you have to read lot of stuff to gain knowledge and even on forum you have to read different threads and participate in them so being lazy is not a option. If you would have care to read a little you would have find lots of threads to help you out on this matter. But main is to enhance your knowledge and write good posts on forum that will help you to gain merits. You can get merit very easily. You have to work hard for that. If you can post some coletifull and post some information and go to different threads and solve many problems that many people have. Getting merits is easy but if your sole focus is on ranking up without doing any efforts just because you can participate in signature campaigns then you won't grow on forum frankly saying. We need to shift our goal from earning merits to exchange of knowledge, gaining knowledge from various threads and other resources about bitcoin and crypto market. With this when you share something useful or start healthy discussion on forum you will be rewarded with merits as there are newbies or say full rank members with lot of merits. You would rank up with your activity points you will get every fortnight if you are active while merit stats depends on your knowledge. So it's hard and easy at the same time.

Don't have to blame yourself too much because everyone has different purpose for coming to this forum, but in your own case, if you finds out that all were due to your own actions and inactions then try to maintain a steady stay, i believe since you can achieve to the full member rank on the forum you can still go beyond if you're determined to, all you need is to stay focused and contribute to the forum with what you think is quality post, you already have the activities and merit is what is left, if you do well then you can as well apply to some merit giveaway threads.

I don't quite understand how activities are counted, it's just necessary to be active for a certain amount of time, or how does it work?
You just need to write posts for your activity to go up, that's all. However, to prevent users spamming for their activity score there are 14-day intervals in which your activity will increase. Check this post for more information: FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and meritThe way activity is calculated is complicated to understand, but simply put you can only get 14 activity points every two week period. This is basically all you need to know but I will explain the intricacies and technicalities of the system below to avoid any confusion:
★ You can only get 14 activity points every fortnightly period. ★ The fortnightly periods are fixed and do not start when you sign up. ★ A list of all the dates of the activity periods can be found on this spreadsheet (credit goes to jambola2 for compiling it). ★ You can technically get more than 14 activity in two weeks if you sign up between periods. ★ You only need to make at least one post in each activity period to be able to collect the activity at a later date. For instance, you could make one post in three different periods and you would then have 3 posts and 3 activity, but a potential activity of 42. Once you made the 42 posts you would then have 42 activity but no more. If you made one post in 35 different periods you would then have 35 posts and 35 activity but a potential activity of 480. That means you would be a Junior Member but if you made the full 480 posts you would instantly become a Hero Member. ★ If your post count eclipses your activity by 14 or more then you will only need to make one post in the new period to get the full 14 activity. For instance, your post count is 200 but your activity is only 28. To get another 14 activity you will only need to make one post in the new period and you will then have a total of 42 activity. Click the thread if you need more information. There is a FAQ and plenty of examples.

You have been already directed to the link where you will find lot of details on how your activity points will be calculated. You are rewarded with 14 activity points each fortnight and you remain to activate during that time as you have received 28 Activity while you have registered only 21 days prior but you were active while distribution period so you have this activity. So read them in detail for more information on how it's calculated.

Why nit take your time in reading through the links posted by members on activities abd merits required for each rank, this will help you have target set if you truly desire a ranking up and determined to stay, this is part if the first things expected of you to discover the very first time you joined the forum but just as it were never too late to begin a start somewhere, i think you've just did the right thing asking.

You can make a visit here to the beginners and help board and check this pinned post which is really necessary to read. It also includes the merit and activity requirements. Newbies - Read before posting. activity = min(time * 14, posts)
Don't get bothered when your activity count stops its normal already mentioned too by bullrun2020bro. Better to look around dont get too much overwhelmed with these information.

If I upvote a post on reddit and later change by mind, tapping the upvote button again will remove the vote. In same manner if I like a post on facebook and change my mind about it, I can unlike. If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it...

If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it... I think there is nothing you can do about that action, before you even merit a post you must have gone through the post carefully to determine by your own self if the post is actually merit worthy. So you coming to think the post is not worthy after awarding the merits sounds bizarre to me dont you think unless only if you merited a post by mistake but even at that there is still nothing you can do about it as the merit system design in the forum works in a one way pattern

If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it... Nothing happens. Merit is a factor in determining forum rank, if anyone can demerit a post they had previously merited, we would have a situation where ranks are not fixed and one can go down or up in ranks skewing the merit system. Changing your mind on a post is fine, and you can indicate that with a comment, you do not have to unmerit it. Meriting doesn't reduce your total merit score. If you find yourself changing your mind on a post often, you need to recheck your criteria for meeting a post.
Only the admins can undo a merit and it has been done once or twice in the past.

I learnt from experience and the easiest way not to have regrets is read a few of the posts from the person you are giving merit to. If they somehow copied a good paragraph from elsewhere or similar nonsense it should be more obvious they are not for real when browsing a few of their posts and comparing. It will take slightly longer but I have to do that as I most often would assume a bias with merit to new people who are higher risk in being legit or not. I would also argue as an economy in circulation merit is slightly illiquid, it has the decay factor with some supply but I can well imagine some find themselves in a complete drought and other parts of the forum thats not the case. High variance, its hard to make a system thats not too loose in its standard but also fair to all new and old.

Well this meriting criteria/prerequisite would work only for non merit sources who have a few amount of Smerits to give out, thus if a user has around 5-6 Smerits to share, they can have the liberty/time to be this fastidious to ensure their scarce resources (Smerits) is given to the best possible posts. But for a MS who has quite a lot of source merits to give out to users, i don't think they would have the time to check previous posts of the user, they'd basically focus on the very post they are reading and want to merit, it is only when they find something suspicious about it that they can then dig a little bit deeper. I would also argue as an economy in circulation merit is slightly illiquid, it has the decay factor with some supply but I can well imagine some find themselves in a complete drought and other parts of the forum thats not the case. There is no system that is perfect, and the merit system is not, but it has somewhat being the most effective in combating spam in the forum. Smerits do not decay, even if Theymos says he might make it possible to do so in the future, and the only supply (except you're a MS) is 1 merit earned produces 0.5 Smerits.

If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it... If you Merit enough posts, you'll make a mistake once in a while. It happens. But removing Merit isn't possible, and would lead to other problems as it would also remove sMerit from that user, and he may have used it already.

If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it... And what terrible thing can happen if you don’t cancel the like for what you once liked? In my opinion, it is much more terrible to leave an unfair dislike, and then it is important to correct your mistake. And if something positive, good has been done, then why shouldn't it remain so. Do not regret leaving likes!

If I send merit to someone and later discovered that the post does not worth it... The chances of this are very rare because you merit a post after you have read about it and you liked or it has something useful according to you so the post automatically becomes worthy according to you. When you click on the merit you are redirected to a page where you enter how many smerits you have and what are you willing to send so then also you can think about it. But as you are saying that you find it is not worthy later on how do you decide it afterwards? The content of the post remains same you have merited and overall it can't be reversed so make sure you do the right thing in starting only.
