But mostly who whines about merit system are those people who are low ranked and care about merit so they can join signature campaign because they always said " you are legendary/hero rank and you already have a decent amount of money if you join sig campaign that is why you said merit is perfect bla bla bla", and i am pretty sure all the whining newbie is alt-accounts because why the hell they know about some old system and some old member in here.
I am not whining here, I am just trying to point out some problem with the system. If they created the account around 2016-2017 how would they don't know the old system?

At least if you produce a quality post, it increases your chance to get merit, and why would you so mad about that? If you really contribute with an intention to contribute, then merit shouldnt the first thing that comes to your mind.
Again not all people are english proficient and have writing skills and also knows BTC technicalities, that is why putting the Merit eligibility wholly on good writing will unfairly put almost everyone who don't speak english at very disadvantage position

Then why would a system is called "failed system" just because you and others say so? More logic fallacy in that.
How would you tell that it is fair then? based on the amount of complaints, how people bashing the system all over, I am fairly correct saying that it is failed to be fair.

World can only try to be a fair place for everyone, it will not be fair for everyone or up to your expectation, so try to accept it and find the best solutions for it, not to take down of it. Even with decentralization platform like bitcoin, all the whales can make a big fortune in a short time by selling a lot of coins when the prices is high enough for them, resulting to mass panic sell and people losing their investment, and you talk about fairness in a forum that is owned by a person?
If you see weakness in a system that you believe can lead to a more catastrophic failure would you just sit and accept it ?

Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

You really wished that you could join a signature campaign because probably you believe that signature campaigns cause a lot of income... hahahahahaha... NONSENSE...   They don't tend to cause a lot of income unless you are abusing them with multiple accounts or you have no other money and you believe that $100 a month or whatever is a lot of money.    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
mostly that's tru as for the last two months when the devs promise 2 coins and then they don't even pay and they didn't send me the airdrop either Undecided scammers, but Qbic signature was good, they have pumped the coin to 250k sats or so and some 9 coins was a decent amount a Ke$h right until the next week and soon it's 12k sats or so and the investors got pwned Cool. Now all coins tend to cost very little and even less than that because of the huge wave of C11 algo pre-sale scams we had at January probably, that's the only explanation. And too many coins out there with 80% MN / 20% miners, with riDICKulous ROI of 100500% Grin that disco-urages ppl as they lose money right after buying such a MN

I am agree with this merit system but there should be a section where newbies and below rank members can show their skills and earn merit from bitcointalk team because I have seen many people don't get merit on quality posts.  I am still learner, I am not talking about myself but i observed.

NO! I don't agree with your point. Why? Because of the open environment of the bitcointalk forum as it has already been for years. There are lots of topics, boards, child boards in which constructive users can help others, can contribute with their original ideas, with their skills, their knowledge to get merits. They should not beg for merits, should not beg for merit sources, and of course, should not beg for specific-designed boards only for merit discussions.
Such a board, if implemented, might be covered and abused massively with tons of shits from spammers. The board might be completely shitshow.
In a nutshell, we should not have such a board!

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

I am agree with this merit system but there should be a section where newbies and below rank members can show their skills and earn merit from bitcointalk team because I have seen many people don't get merit on quality posts.  I am still learner, I am not talking about myself but i observed.

If you create some kind of system or thread yourself, and other members like it, then you will likely earn merit from that - or cause such an area on the forum to be one in which other members can earn merit.

This is not a decentralized forum, so members have the right to create threads on any topic that they like and if others like it, then they will likely participate in your thread or tell you how it could be improved.

In other words, if you think that it a topic, an area or a thread is lacking, then go make it or perhaps some other member could receive inspiration from your ideas and create his/her version of such an area or thread.

[Edited as above]

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

I agree with JayJuanGee ideas.
In addition, for interest of waqasniaz007, this is one interesting topic that he/she should read and follow (not only following the topic and its progress over time, but also tracing the progress of Talk merit account). I think it is very interesing to see whether merits Talk merit will earn and how long the account will rank up to next rank (of course, ranks from Member and above).
By following the account, we will have clearer, more transparent view about what's really going on with merit system and users in the forum (especially, their responses to the forum newcomers).

I'm coming to the conclusion that this is not a typical account, and I wouldn't expect it to earn any merit. In fact many of the posts are examples of how to stop yourself from being awarded merit. Smiley

I don't think it can be considered to be a newcomer's account either. I would be surprised if it ever reaches the rank of member.

That account is clearly an alt account use to troll newbie, with huge amount of Merit waiting for it to be Merited from his Merit hog account. You are just perpetuating lies, knowing that account is an alt and try to convince people that it will organically be merited

It is a self-declared alt account and there is nothing wrong with that. There is something wrong with being so juvenile as to accuse him of intent to abuse merit with no basis. Grow up.

It is hard to complain about merit system specially when it put control on system abuse, but it require lot of learning for users to understand how merit works. in lack on that, no matter what quality you bring, if your post read by educated person, you might get merit otherwise not possible.

But every good thing comes with drawback and i wish we could do more to educate people how merit works.

Time will answer whether Talk merit can surpass Member rank and higher ones or not. In my opinion, the account will definitely move up. Looking at post-history, most of threads are constructive ones, only few are trolling ones. However, we need it because the forum should not be a serious place all the time, from topics to topics, from threads to threads.

Not only it will rank up, you also can accurately guess who will give merit and what type of post is merited, trying hard to post as many post at Meta to catch the Activity update cut off time is good proof that this will be a troll & spamming account, post not worth reading.

True, people have no clue that there is something called sMerit as well, and some think spending sMerit will take away their merits.
Seriously majority don't have any clue of this new system.

Agree on this.
As per rule: You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.
Some people are looking in "If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point."
that is why they are not giving merit to other people cause they're waiting to make it a whole for themselves. Wink

Because most of members are not going to spend time reading abour the rules, they thus dont care much, it definitely leads the merit system which helps highlight good members will not work properly.

on another view, one will refuse to use their merits which very hard to earn, in order to make other be better, and lower their own " intelectual "

just my opinion.

You are missing a point!
There are merit sources, who often give their sMerits away; and prestigious, generous, knowledgeable users who often do it, too. So it's not strange if Talk merit earn merits from them.
However, you are right at the following point. Meta board is the place which catch attention and vistited by lots of users in the forum, particularly high ranked users. So joining the board, contribute to the board will increase probability to earn merits.

I also didn't know much until i got through all those FAQ threads, which newbies usually dont read.
Looks like it'll be better to show sMerit stat just under Merit in profile, so people would try to figure out, what that number is
