Do merits regenerate through time?
Only if you are a merit source.

Or only merit sources can make them?
Every merit source has a quote of free sMerits that are refilled every 30 days.

The smerits we have at the beginning won't regenerate after it is over?
That's true.

Only we will get 1/2 from merits we received right?
Yes. You get 0.5 sMerits for every merit you receive. That's the only way to get more sMerits if you are not a merit source.

Merit can get from people, but only if their views and the person are the same and they see fit!

Admin has mentioned in OP that you should not give merit to  a person just because you agree to his post.

Here are some of the facts to consider while giving merits:

1) It should be based on how much useful that post is for the forum.

2) If someone has responded to query of a user in very less time, it should be given preference while giving merits.

Actually, he very clearly did not say that.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

'I encourage' is not telling people what they should or shouldn't do. It is just a pointer as to what he would prefer. In the end, the decision belongs to the individual as to how they spend their sMerit.

Wonder if he is banned already. By the way, how do you check plagiarism things @TheQuin??

Basically stuffs when using Internet. Please use Google search for finding original sources (if available) and discover plagiarists. Very easy, don't?
I don't think you should ask such basic question!

I know how to deal with it, but sometimes i searched and i didnt find anything, thats why i asked the question, maybe @TheQuin have another trick how to do it which i dont know.

If you want to teach people, just teach bro, no need to add some word like "i dont think you should ask such basic question" to make yourself greater than others.

In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member300
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

Useful infographics

Forum users have helpfully created some infographics to explain the merit system:
paxmao's infographic
ibminer's infographic
8Habits's infographic
JetSet11's infographic
zentdex's infographic
alia_armelle's infographic

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

There are stats here, and you can find someone's merit summary by clicking the "merit" link on their profile.
The merits system has rook effect a couple of months ago and i think it's been useful.  I hope everyone will take this seriously and all..

All of the members could still rank up they just have to prove that they are worth it,
They just have to prove that they aren't one of those spammer's who are just spamming nonsense in this forum.
And I think if their comment, thread or post is really informative or helpful there would be a forum member that would surely give them a merit.

Users don't have to prove anything. Just be themselves. Then they will get what they deserved to have.
Don't try to be someone else. If they want to learn, just keep learning; want to help others, just help them. Don't do anything to demonstrate they are constructive users; don't do anything, don't help others because they think that they will get merits from those stuffs.
It is my opinion, so please don't fall into aggressive argument with me.

Just good old simple Google search taking a small sample text enclosed in "" usually finds it pretty quick. That particular one was so obviously a news article with "Is it true" written in front of it.

A little bit more clarification, Using " your target phrases " will help you to narrow down results on exactly which words you want to search when using Google search. This tip will help you to save time, and don't feel annoying with shit results which contains only some of words in your keywords, and not exactly what you want to find.

Good day sir theymos. In any means I just want to suggest about ranking system in this forum. With this merit system, some or rather most of us can hardly gain some merits not because we dont posts something informational but because no ones care about it, because some here only give merits to their alt accounts or the one they knew or to their friends or some were selling (i guess) or some reciprocate merits to each other. We rarely gain some for some of us who were alone in this forum.

Yes I am a bounty hunter, Ive made a lot of reports but here's what Ive been thinking all along. My suggestion is to remove the merit system and go back to the old school but this time all the made "posts" of every member of this forum wouldnt be automatically converted into "activity" unless the moderator of that particular topic would agree to convert it into "activity", and for that, every non sense posts, report posts or spams and etc wouldnt become "activity" in someone's account, the only "posts" that will be converted into "activity" are those who were constructive, informative and have sense accordingly to the topic.

By all means I am just suggesting Smiley good day everyone. More power to each and everyone one of us and especially to this forum. God Bless y'all..

There are a number of ways to find out copied content. There re paid services for this purpose like copyscape and also there are some free ways to check this. You can simply copy 2-3 lines of the post and paste it inn Google to see if it is copied from some website. This will work in most cases as the website which posted it first should appear higher in the search engines. Also, some websites have time of post made listed and you can check using that information.

You should use < snip > as I did to save more space for readers and make them feel more comfortable when they watch your thread. Using snip for un-used contents in the threads you quote. I don't see the need to quote the OP after the topic has passed over 200 pages after its launch.  Roll Eyes
Please remember do it next time.
< snip >

I don't think users in the forum should spend their money to buy and use such service you mentioned.
It is something like intentionally efforts to beg for merits by spending money to buy softwares to find out plagiarists, reporting them and waiting for merits.
It's ridiculous to spend all your time in the forum to do this.

Spending your time, your efforts to earn more knowledge is better choice.

Well how much you get depends on the mood of the forum members too. In some forums you can get easier as it is faster to use.
Bitcointalk is a little bit slower forum for use so I don't expect many merit points, but it definitely brings out the quality.
I hope that need for quality will not bring out unnatural quality when someone tries to force the quality when there's none.

What is this? To be honest, I do not understand what you wrote. Slower forum. What? And if it is actually slower forum, is this characteristics really correlated with merit circulation? I don't think so, my friend.
Only good users can earn merits, naturally.
Please be good user, then see when merits come.

Are the merit sources on vacation?  It seems like there aren't many merits going around these days.  Maybe people are just lazy to give them out or don't really care for the system.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

Could you be a bit more specific in your analysis?  What is your basis and evidence for your assertions?

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

The analysis of some people like these are :
1. I have good posts/some people in my favorite board have good posts
2. I dont get merit/they dont get merit
3. = Merit sources on vacation or broken system or unfair system
4. Repeat every time
