i have to think how others might think or want, not what i really do Smiley
If you're not thinking about how other people will interpret what you have to say, then you're not having a conversation with them, which is the whole purpose of a forum. Instead you're just talking to yourself at best, and interrupting other people's conversations at worst, and everyone else is sick of dealing with it at this point.

I have only one problem with this Merit system..
I understand it has to raise the overall quality of the forum and I have no problem with that.
But who decides what is a quality itself? What is useful to one may be junk to others. It is pretty subjective.
Basically if i want to fish out some Merits, i have to think how others might think or want, not what i really do Smiley

Haha.. Impressive post..  Grin Grin
I was wondering the same the other day, but never posted it.. but you did..

The fact is every person has a interest on a specific section of the forum, so they may frequently visit only that section of the forum daily.
Also, not every Higher Rank Member holding a Sendable Merit is going to hunt each and every Topic/Post of the forum, after-all we all are humans..

So it's not an easy task for a New Member to get his first Merit, unless their Topic or Post stands out well in the eyes of the Higher Rank Member holding a sMerit.

SUGGESTION:
☀ There should be a way where the links of Quality Topic/Post can be submitted daily.
(off-course the Newbie should know what does a Quality Post mean, instead of a Spam Post or some Copy-pasted Junk Post).

☀ A sticky topic could be created by the Admin where every Newbie is allowed to post the links of their Topic/Post which they find it as a Quality Post.

☀ His post containing the links of Topic/Post should be deleted by the Staff after 1 week. In short, the post would stay there for a week or so and then it would be deleted.

☀ To avoid spam in that Sticky Topic, there should be a limitation such that that the Newbie can submit only 1 Post per week with a maximum of 5 Links of his Topic/Post.

☀ The links posted once should not be editable later by the Member, else they will keep updating the links every 1 day to gain more Merits.

☀ All High Rank Member would screen through this Topic/Post as per their availability on the forum, if they feel it's good and worth a merit, they will send the Merit.

☀ I think, this way the Merit System would be more fair to everyone.

I understand your new merit system, but for people like me who translate ANN contents with many images it's a punch in my face. Now I have useless images I edited and translated as well as entire posts (because the content is on images).

And yeah, my posts, now that they are almost useless, will gather many merits to become alive again...

The number of members in this forum is approximately 2,38,1553, an average of 8126 postings per day. What are the percentage of those who are Merit holders? How many members are those who have a relevant opinion? I think their number is very low. In this, the image of the forum is not only wasted, but I like learning about Spaniards like Nuvi Rao. I think it's a revolution that the respected Admin Theymos has introduced. This will stop irrelevant posting. Replaces quality. Enhance the demand for quality post forums, everyone will get the right information.

You'll see it when you click +Merit above a post.

but don't worry they come and go so fast ..... its difficult to hold some

Wow, today I saw that lots of account turn to newbie status.
After that, I visit the topic to see which sort of changes have been made.
it's really good to see that forum users need at least 1 merit to rank up to Junior member rank.
Thanks @Theymos for changing the rank requirements.

Sentences like this make me think this system is needed more than ever, and i’m pretty happy about this new 1merit step for jr membership.

I joined this forum few months ago because i wanted to contribute, after months of lurking for learning.
Most of the ppl i interact with are here to share their knowledge and learn more.
All the ppl i read complaining (crying/begging) about merit are here whishing for free easy money (as if this forum  owed something to them by birth right).... spending time ruining everybody experience with useless spam....

I repeat: I had 0 merit few time back (as a lot of users like me).... make some useful contribution to the community and merit will come

Keep crying because you want to join bounty and spam.... 1merit for jr member? Let’s make it 10

Exactly.. case in point.  I see that your membership, Speculatoross, began a few days before the implementation of this merit system, so even though it might take you longer to rank up under this new system, you are providing a decent dent into earning merits along the way, and like you suggested, if your goal is to learn and participate in the contents of the threads (bitcoin and perhaps crypto), you will likely earn merits along the way based on your participation... even if you are starting as a newbie, and even if it may take a bit longer to build up a few merits and to get some upwards earning momentum going.

By the way, I would be inclined to agree that something like 3 merits to rank up to Jr. Member as an earlier poster suggested; however, we likely need to see whether 1 merit remains sufficient to weed out a large majority of the shitposting, farmed accounts, spam, shills, trolls and scammers, and I would not be opposed to increasing the Jr. Member requirements at some later date, if theymos concluded that the 1 merit requirement was not sufficiently weeding out some of the problematic post (posters).

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

I confirmed the posting of January 24, 2018 and I learned that the number of merits is related.
This evaluation was introduced January 24th. Why did you demote this September? Huh
Either way it is necessary to have a quality post. . .

I already don't like the way clicking on +merit takes you away from the thread.  Can you please have it open in a new window?
A little suggestion for the idea of opening a new window.
1. a system of merit, or a policy where members are promoted or valued on the basis of ability and achievement, not because of seniority,
2. solely on the basis of capability and not patronage.

Given the concerns about abuse even with only positive merit, I dont know if I would support that.
There's a whole other level to possible abuse vectors when adding negative merit as well, that can decrease somebodies rank.
I do not blame this system as being better for detecting Multi-account spamer, What I worry about is that many people die here and do negative things that are inexplicable, like cats pouncing on mice nearly thousands of mice are destroyed.

New ranking system is actually helpful for getting quality post form the new members ( Newbies). All Jr.Members who have been demoted to Newbies for their 0 merit, can now purchase Cooper Membership with small fees to participate in signature campaign.

Actually I've noticed more spam from 0 merit members who either begs for one merit or spam many discussions thinking that what they write will earn them a merit. I hope this will not last long and after "old Jr. Members" who got demoted get their 1 merit, we will see the benefits of this change. Just 1 merit seems low though, I'd like to see 5 merits instead.

The main problem is the bounty managers who accept Jr. Member in the first place, but I guess if you reward people with 0-value shitcoins then you don't care about filtering, the cost of your bounty is 0$ anyway.

If you're not thinking about how other people will interpret what you have to say, then you're not having a conversation with them, which is the whole purpose of a forum. Instead you're just talking to yourself at best, and interrupting other people's conversations at worst, and everyone else is sick of dealing with it at this point.

Punch taken, a good one.

But still, to keep it focused, we are talking about real reasoning for giving/earning Merit vs trashtalk, fomo, fud, bounty posts that this should reduce?
Going bit derailed-Yes, people are here for different reasons, so i guess some are better than others for the community.. Taking it to deeper in 1 subject: Why bounty hunters are worse than the rest? (they do have to be active in forums with posts (contents of a post itself is mostly irrelevant. No interest in making conversation there)). You see the problem is not the hunter itself but the system that makes him post this junk. Just redirect all coin/token bounties, commercials and ico-s to somewhere deep folders where you never have to go and let them rant there Smiley
Eventually bounty creators see no reason in this business. Or just ban it.

For those who create multiple account just to spam links etc- why creating account is easier than buying milk in the store? I know it should be easy for real new user to come and take part in community but everywhere where system provides valuable info or resources, people are willing to make a bigger effort to have access to it.

We are talking here mostly about newbies and jr members who had certain interest here in the forum and lot of them are complaining about something that most higher rank members can never relate to anymore.
By now i have read a lot of posts by users who are merit sources and their explanations how they give merit and how their standards will not change etc. They all say they will read your posting history, that you have to have all quality posts... the hell.. everyone who has over 100 posts have some shit in their history. And now you can copy that 13th of february in 2018 (2017 or 2016 or whatever) post when your portfolio crashed 30% and your dog died the same day and you just felt posting something with "quality". Because of that post you get no merit whatsoever? When would that user be worthy again?

Foxpup, if you are concerned about the quality of conversation then I'm sure that among those 2,3 mio accounts I bet 90 % doesn't "qualify" to be worthy to have conversation with you. But people do come here to learn and grow.  And people do come here to spam, rant, do bounty hunting etc. Like iI said before, I have no problem with merit system, but with the reasoning or rules how they might be distributed.

To be cleared, I'm not talking about myself (my post history is garbage) and I have no need for merit at the moment Smiley

...

Your argument is based on an exaggeration so it has no substance absent the exaggeration. I'm pretty sure you were referring to a comment made by The Pharmacist:

I got made a merit source this morning, which was a bit of a surprise since I hadn't ever applied to be one and have stated multiple times that I didn't want to be one.  However, since Theymos has seen fit to saddle me with the responsibility, I'll accept it and take it seriously.

However, I don't plan to give merits to any old Newbie just for a typical crappy post, i.e., I don't plan to lower the standards that I've always had.  What I do plan on doing is finding low-ranked members who actually deserve merits, and I'll pay more attention to noob posts when I see them.
...

Which was in my thread warning not to give merits to newly-demoted newbies if they have lots of posts in spam megathreads. This is not the same as saying don't give anyone merit if their post history is not totally free of shitposts, rather, to not accidentally undermine the goal that the new merit requirement for jr. members is attempting to achieve - namely, to remove the incentive to posting in spam megathreads just to ensure you meet your sig campaign posting quota.
