I watch for many users and I will tell you that if you want to get merit and rank is not such an impossible task. We just don't have enough experience for that...but most importantly, we have no desire. For many of us it is hard even to formalize your post, not to mention the more complex things. Do not have to write complex posts, delving into the markup language-enough so that the posts were useful and bore some benefit.

In future maybe adding an extra membership such as silver or gold membership so new users can at least add an avatar. My last account got stolen several years ago and I never got it back. Now it’s much harder (more like impossible) to get higher ranks so at least giving people a chance to pay for having an avatar. To those saying it’s fine put yourself in others shoes and imagine losing your account. Also bounty hunters/account farmers won’t pay to have an avatar. Thank you from reading. I'm also saying it's fine. For your info, I have started with 0 merits approx 4 months ago and now I am on the way to full member-->way to the avatar. I have the confidence that I will be full member on next activity update on 15 January. You are here with 2 posts saying it's harder. It's nothing harder man. It is as it was back in the day for everyone who doesn't take it as only a money making source, simple.

Actually, @H0nest is in breach of the forum rules: He has been permanently banned on his other account (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5092645.msg49026523#msg49026523) and therefore should not be posting anymore (the appeal was already made on Meta).

A forum for a decentralized currency, Applies centralized laws. funny ! Miss u Satoshi.
It has nothing to do with centralized laws. Abuse is universal. Moral is a thing. Doesn't have to be system related. Taking credit or abusing other's work is bad in every single way. It is also just bad for the forum and gives 0 added value. And since the forum is centralized, it's rules are too.

I would advise that writing good posts isn't enough - it also depends on where you post them. Many of us, myself included, post mainly in the altcoins section, which is very light on merit. In large part this is because the discussions there in general don't have the technical depth and intelligence that we see in some of the BTC areas.
Weirdly a good place to get merit seems to be in threads about merit - if you are a newbie or junior, and have a history of writing good (or at least useful) posts in the altcoins section, and then come here and ask about merit, there is a chance that someone might reward you. But you do need the good posts first!

The altcoin boards suffer from spam, which makes it difficult to find good posts. But you're more than welcome to link them in |self-moderated| Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source, several Merit Sources are ready to merit good posts that have been overlooked.

I was looking over some stats and thought that I’d share them here: rank nUserTo nTX nMerits % Merits AvgMeritPerUserTo Administrator 2 1184 3323 1,14% 1661,5 Founder 1 206 1527 0,52% 1527, VIP 15 96 389 0,13% 25,93 Donator 33 662 1518 0,52% 46, Global Moderator 3 346 760 0,26% 253,33 Staff 24 2005 4315 1,48% 179,79 Legendary 1253 27704 53190 18,23% 42,45 Hero Member 1189 15746 34175 11,71% 28,74 Sr. Member 1955 21548 47861 16,4% 24,48 Full Member 3359 21992 48963 16,78% 14,58 Member 5617 28163 60741 20,82% 10,81 Jr. Member 9176 15233 24666 8,45% 2,69 Newbie 2831 4303 9534 3,27% 3,37 Brand new 151 283 829 0,28% 5,49
Total 25609 139471 291791 100,0% 11,39
In brief, what we can see in the table above is the number of people merited per current rank, the number of merit TXs received by each rank, the aggregate number of merits received, the received percentage per rank, and the average(*) merits received per merited user in a given rank. (*) This last ratio should be read for quick comparison purposes between ranks, but it could be further dissected by other criteria to get a better reading (i.e. in relation to the number of post, activity, account age, content, etc.).Quick readings: - Legendries have an average(*) merit per person that is 47,69% higher than Heroes. - But Heroes’s average is only 17,40% greater than Sr. Members. - Lower ranks have a rather much lower merit per person, but on aggregate, the total amount of merits received by those ranks is rather evenly spread (Member and above). - Jr. Members are rather below on the above accounts (but we need to take into consideration that it is also a “new” type of rank with the September 2018 redefinition). - There are 2.831 merited Newbies. That means that they do not have the >= 30 activity required to become a Jr. Member. Looking at the dates, only ¼ of those accounts have at least logged-in since December 2018. - Brand New has a higher Average Merit per merited user than Newbies and Jr. Members, but the base count of the group is low (only 151 people), so the average can easily be influenced by some of the more exceptional cases within the rank.

- snip - Be ready for next week, we will have a huge pump Impressive week with sudden rise of merits sent around. Which types of reasons behind the rises? Personally, I guess the newest rising tide comes from the effects of new changes in the forum, relates to the Defaul Trust System. There are topics that got massive merits after the newest changes on Trust system: 1) DefaultTrust changes (by theymos), on January 09, 2019, 06:03:26 PM. 251 merits in total, 95 merits for the OP, and 156 merits for rest pages, by now. More details below. 0 merits in page #1, rest posts excluding the OP. 0 merits in page #2 1 merits in page #3 11 merits in page #4 31 merits in page #514 merits in page #6 1 merits in page #7 9 merits in page #8 2 merits in page #9 10 merits in page #10 0 merits in page #11 0 merits in page #12 1 merits in page #13 10 merits in page #14 1 merits in page #15 4 merits in page #16 6 merits in page #17 28 merits in page #18 2 merits in page #19 7 merits in page #20 2 merits in page #21 2 merits in page #22 4 merits in page #23 10 merits in page #24 0 merits in page #25 (incomplete page)2) shdvb has the best "Attitude" when it comes to sending trust (BPIP) (by Vod), on January 11, 2019, 09:14:29 PM. 9 merits in total, by now. 3) Customized Trust Network – Interactive tool to see who we trust/distrust (by DdmrDdmr), on January 12, 2019, 05:47:05 AM. 51 merits in total, by now. 4) The new DT system, updated 10 JaN 2019 (by coinlocket$), on January 11, 2019, 12:01:45 AM. 19 merits in total, by now. 5) [Lets Discuss]Custom Trust list and Pros and Cons of the system. (by r1s2g3), on January 11, 2019, 02:36:31 AM. 5 merits in total, by now. 6) See with DT function - Enhancement idea (by asche), on January 10, 2019, 08:09:52 PM. 20 merits in total, by now. 7) I don't understand the purpose of the trust system here. (by Jet Cash), on January 10, 2019, 11:42:27 AM 24 merits in total, by now. 8> Trust Feedback Suggestion @theymos (by Hhampuz), on January 09, 2019, 11:54:59 PM 51 merits in total, by now. 9) A short introduction to the Trust System (by qwk), on January 12, 2019, 07:09:44 PM 34 merits in total, by now. 10) Concerns with new DT1 logic (by Quickseller), on January 10, 2019, 08:29:11 AM 29 merits in total, by now.
Now, let's sort them in descending order of topic's total merits received in order to quicly see the hottest topics on new Trust system that probably the most deserved ones to spend your time for reading. I only list the top 5 hottest topics: 1) DefaultTrust changes2) Customized Trust Network – Interactive tool to see who we trust/distrust3) Trust Feedback Suggestion @theymos4) A short introduction to the Trust System5) Concerns with new DT1 logic.
Additionally, those ten topics contributed 493 merits within the last week, in total.

No, the rise is not due to the DT factor (yet), since the DT changes took place on the 09/01/2019 and the merit data last complete week takes us up to the 06/01/2019. The overall factors are likely two that explain the rise in the merit: - People getting back on to the forum after the core xMas holidays. - @theymos modified Merit Source allowance quotas on the 05/01/2019. Even if overall quota is roughly the same, the reassignment causes the individual pool to start from the top again (if I interpreted his post correctly), so therefore effectively some of the pools were replenished without waiting for the full 30 days since last replenishment, and some were more than happy to start awarding them around. For example, the Economics subsection evolved as follows: 03/01/2019 -> 44 sMerits 04/01/2019 -> 65 sMerits 05/01/2019 -> 158 sMerits 06/01/2019 -> 242 sMerits 07/01/2019 -> 124 sMerits (outside of last complete week’s windows). Likely the next complete week’s reading will be very lively…

Ok, you are right! I am wrong. No, the rise is not due to the DT factor (yet), since the DT changes took place on the 09/01/2019 and the merit data last complete week takes us up to the 06/01/2019.
3 new merit sources added recent days. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sourcesAnd, as you said, it is probably that allocated merits given to more actively sources, and those ones potentially led to increase of merit sent in the forum. However, it is just an assumption. The overall factors are likely two that explain the rise in the merit:
- People getting back on to the forum after the core xMas holidays.
I guess that the next week's statistics will witness a high merits, higher or remain at current high level. Likely the next complete week’s reading will be very lively…

The Merit System anniversary is on the 25/01/2019. Nevertheless, the hot topic is now DT and customized Trust lists. There are less people complaining about lack of merits (less people in the whole active, which probably helps in that sense).

Trust and DT is the current 'talk of the forum', merit discussion has cooled notably, except for a few now and again. There has been an increase in number of merits available to sources and ith this hopefully an increase in merit distribution
And there is still the occasional FUD associated with bitcoin as the price is still at a low value. I regularly catch up with the [urlhttps://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.448820]Wall Observer Thread[/url] for speculations and analysis.
