Would the merit system make it easier for campaign managers and mods to spot people who are multi-accounting and abusing signature and ICO campaigns?
I think that it won't take long before we'll see people giving out merit point to their own various Bitcointalk accounts, thus leaving a digital trail that ties the accounts together.

Will this new feature cause much additional workload for the mods? Since they now have something additional to 'monitor'.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

This was discussed in the official thread for a number of times. Answer to your query is that it will increase the work load but it is better for the community.

Maybe, maybe not.

Where exactly would they get their initial merit from? You do not get sMerit unless you are a source (past the initial phase) or someone gives you merit. Who would give random merit points for useless posts?
