Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Well they aren't really dropping support until April, and the fees are starting to normalize. Is it possible they'd reverse this decision if things are already sorted out by then?

It looks like their founder is also open to the Lightning network:

Then again, one of Bitcoin's purposes as stated in Satoshi's whitepaper is to eliminate the need of financial institutions acting as third parties to process electronic payments, and Stripe is exactly that. Maybe this is a good thing? Lol.

It's never a good thing seeing Bitcoin get dropped to be replaced by whatever shitcoin. To be more precise, it's actually embarrassing. I however find it very interesting that despite of there being a huge load of pretty capable coins to choose from, they are looking at Stellar and Omise. It makes me very suspicious towards the real intentions behind this move -- it reeks of a heavy bias towards these coins, probably because of one or more figures on the top of Stripe being major holders. But hey, it's their choice at the end of the day, so regardless of we agreeing with their decision or not, it's their right to switch. They'll be back once lightning network and they are done with dumping their stashes on the market....

Definitely never a good thing to see an establishment especially Stripe which is a well known that drops support to bitcoin. But just like Microsoft, who knows if they will lift their decision and starts to get back to bitcoin and do support it again when they see the improvement of low fees and faster confirmation.

I have noticed that a lot of companies  and not only them are recently rapidly dropping btc. As I hear The DarkSide is going for Monero.
And YES, why Stellar and OMG, this seems very odd. There are so many popular and  better options, seems weird.
