It will die down very quickly, as people become used it.
No point in creating a child board in the interim.
Exactly! Overtime, users will have to accept the fact that merit system will be here. They will have to adapt with merit system by changing their threads' contents to be more constructive. Less threads/ topics which cry and moan about merit system in the future, I believe it.
Therefore, I don't think we need a new child board which specifically created for merit system.
I remember that during the first month after launch of merit system, there were dozen of topics about this one and related issues. For now, looking at Meta, Begginers & help boards, I saw less topics about merit system. It is good news.

I still think Merit is a cool enough part of this forum to warrant it's own child board in the Meta section.  Cool

I agree 100% that Merit should have its own child board.  I think Merit is one of the most important elements in Bitcointalk right now.  It is a make or break for those who wanted to join Signature Campaign.  I for one, haven't join any signature campaign ever since I became a Junior member because the stakes for a Junior member are not commensurate with the amount of work needed to be done in order to earn the stakes.  Some ICOs require between 10-20 quality posts a week for a Signature campaign and that's a lot of work.  In addition, some if not most of ICOs now only allow the rank of Member above in order to be eligible for participation in the Signature Campaign.

I know of a few people who signed up around the same time as me, during the month in which Merit system was introduced.  They've been Junior members ever since.  Some have spend countless number of hours (trying to produce) high quality posts in various section of the forum but to no avail.  Only a few 'good samaritan' members who are kind enough to give out sMerit.  Most are hoarding them, or are not even aware that sMerit can and should be handed out.  I mean there is no incentives for higher rank members to hand out sMerits right?

What's more disturbing is that during my conversation with other members some think that members only give away sMerits to the people they know, which is not what the system is intended.  I know that the system is not perfect.  Perhaps creators or originators of this system should come out with "incentives" in order to encourage higher rank members with lots of Merit to award lower rank members who needed them most, otherwise at some point lower rank members who couldn't move up in the rank would be discouraged, and perhaps abandon the board altogether.

Some say "newbies" are the new currencies on bitcointalk.  They are "buyers" and "consumers" of information.  The higher rank members on the other hand are "sellers" of information.  At the end, without buyers, there will be no one to buy.

Whether or not they accept it isn't really the issue.  It's a part of the forum, and a cool part of the forum that is heavily discussed.  The only real argument I could see against it is that it could open a can of worms where users also want a trust child board to discuss trust issues and another child board for activity, etc.  Perhaps that would be too many boards, and then there'd be nothing left to post about in meta.

So why not make a child board for trust system, merit,activity,etc... and take all of those topics from meta to that one. Hitting 3 birds with one stone. Meta would then remain solely for user problems and discussion.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

Meta has become Meritland, at least for the short term, so I wouldn't complain if this came to be, but I doubt it'll happen. Hopefully like Vod said, this just passes like it did when the trust system was implemented.

Agree! Furthermore, I think Meta board has also become a cemetery (burrial-land) of spammers and account farmers. As we can see, lots of account farmers have been found and, of course, eliminated by moderators. In addition, there are lots of users who naively tried complaining, crying about merit system in Meta board. What did they get? Being put into Ignore list of prestigious members like Jet Cash. Congratulations those ones!

Merit is the new cool kid with rich parents at school. Very interesting topic at the moment, and hard to become his friend if you are not one of the cool ones.
But this particular fellow was a student needed to get ridd of bullys.
Kinda brutal to compare the shitposters with bullys yes, but the way this forum was being ruined il stick with it.

After some time the interest will be reduced in this new kid, but hopefully it results in success for the forum spam.
