Here's another one to add to your list. Sent maximum merit to two users for no discernible reason.

I must have updated the list right as you posted it because I already had it but thank you for helping!

Must've been the case, I didn't see his profile before I replied. Anyway, I assume you're looking at this as well if you're so fast. Thanks for keeping this list updated, although I'm not sure what can be done besides name and shaming abusers. Do you think something like this warrants negative trust?

Yes I am looking at the list, and Yeah I do think it warrents negative trust because it defeats the whole purpose if people are just going to farm it

I suspect this user https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1082600 mutually exchanges the sMerit points with his alts.

Ill add it to the list

Yikes... is it just me or does the merit system seem like it might worsen the account-farming problem even further.
I don't see myself randomly meriting posts, even if they are helpful. So account farmers would have a much easier time gaining merit on their accounts than regular users...
False. Account farming is more difficult. You would have to trickle down merit from your larger accounts (and for that matter you need quite a significant amount to rank up). And because it is public, the abuse can be tracked down and the accounts will be negged.

this is true, account farming is more difficult due to new merit requirement for ranking up
new accounts don't generate merits, even current higher rank's merits will be used up fast in no time
there is no way for account farmer to do it easily unless he has several high level rank accounts actively posting and receiving merits

and the available merits are scarce and possibly getting rarer because a few things such as:
- trickle down effect in sMerit points
- only a few select unknown merit sources with limited merits to spread around
- the generousity of merit sources to spread it around
- decaying (implemented yet?) merit points unused by some users

note: Happy Birthday actmyname,

User albert11 sent 50 merit to Cornhub, an account that has 65 posts and is at Member rank.

The best part (to prove abuse) is that it was the following post:

If bitcoin security is what you are worried about I am happy to tell you that bitcoin is secure and safe as hell. It is one of the most secure services/products out in the internet and Stsying anonymous tops it all off. However, neglectfullness and carelessness might be a reason for you to lose bitcoins through theft. So still keep good security for your precious bitcoins.

Killyou, do you want help maintaining this list? I'd be happy to help.

I am not judging here or what but base on His received merits smells too fishy. Mister K had given Him 1 each per post. And look at the time interval of two given merits in a two different post? Isn't that unusual?

They're starting to do expected things.

It hasn't even been 72 hours and already some people have started abusing the merit system and finding ways to rank up easily as they were doing earlier. If I find any such accounts I'll make sure to attach his/her profile link in this particular thread and do my part of helping to keep the forum clean.

Are we going to tag users for abusing the merits system? Or should admins go straight to banning suspected accounts? Either option works

Start by tagging them, the forum administration is slow.

OP, you really need to work on a better, table-like, layout. As it currently stands, it is just a mess and hard to keep track of.

I'm tagging users who are especially blatant, such as temmuz. As long as there is proof the accounts in question belong to themselves, it is the same thing as sending yourself positive trust.

it is probably a very good thing i dont have any say in the matter.... i would go straight to banning: reason: if they put so much effort into evading and working against the system then  god knows the truth behind anything else they do. to abuse the merit system is the exact reason why all these measures have been put in place.certainly it is a very good thing that there are level headed people in charge of this site and most of the campaigns cuz if it were up to me?  well lets say i am a tad bit to brutal and straight to the point for most people to even handle! tagging them is like the 3 strikes your back to square one and find another way to sidestep the sitewide rules!, ..or.. when they find out that abusing the system gets them knocked down to start over and it will be really hard to get up again they will think many times over before they even try the second time... IMHO

Tagged a couple users. Either for merit farming or for shitposting. They're usually interconnected anyway Wink

Yes they are! Me and rizzlarolla tried to find some of the accounts that were connected to farming 2 years ago. We were shocked to find so many of them.

If you can, please look at these lists and tag those accounts after verifying them yourself. Some of them may have already been sold. But I reckon the accounts that have the same post count and activity count are still under the control of the farmers.

^The user already has negative for account farming so why wouldn't they be abusing it.

In local merit topic this guy actually report this issue to theymos. Also in local topic, people start to complain about him and he send a screenshot about it. Here is the message, so i don't know now he is abusing or not but this is a serious issue.

What if the merit system will be use in other purpose? Example: someone really hates me a lot then make tweetbit1 account and merit my post just to use as an evidence against me for having an alt account or account farming or do multiple account for this ultimate purpose. This can also ruin one innocent account. Leave an opinion what you think about it. #throlling

Hi OP,I have some big cats for you, surely they abused the merit system so they also deserves negative trust.Highly untrustworthiness from them. The source is below
First of all I am not against the merit,I just want to figure out the negativities.
If someone said DT will be fair while distributing the merits.I will say no,
Here I have a reference for that,Lauda and aTriz most well know members of our forum exchanging merits between them.
1.Lauda merited aTriz for running a twitter campaign ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2482937.msg25417254#msg25417254 )
2.aTriz merited Lauda for a shit answer ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2813828.msg28801076#msg28801076 )
If you are saying that posts deserves 50 and 20 merits.I am totally against you.So all the merits are going to stuck between the well known forum member.

It's an A-->B linkage, not an A<-->B linkage. Therefore, anything negative should apply to the person that is giving the merit away. After checking and ensuring (with a high probability) that the other is indeed an alt of the sender, then you tag them and connect the accounts with an A<-->B linkage.

I think the merit system is still being developed and there must be another benchmark that can determine it real or fake. We all here must be worried about what you say, it could happen and we just wait for how there is an appropriate reference to strengthen the merit into an accurate benchmark.

Thanks for the answer actmyname, but still confused. I made a new thread on Meta for the same concern so that everyone will be aware of this possible scenario that can be a big problem sooner. I hope the number of DT is enough for this, if my fear came to reality.

Update : I’ve got my answer already, Brand new accounts have zero merit for that purpose and already locked the thread I made.
