There are many users who are trading the sMerits at the moment, particularly in the local section. How to stop this, as they are abusing the main motive behind this newly introduced ranking and merit system ? If this continues then the actual idea for launching this system will be failed and it will continue to encourage the illegal sales of sMerit.

They are already being given negative trust. You can help moderators by reporting this if you notice. Check this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827424.0

Post the links here, or PM me or other DT users like Lauda, actmyname or The Pharmacist, so the sellers and buyers are given negative trust

Moderators don't moderate this.

sMerit per user is finite, unless you're a source, so selling sMerits now will just stop sooner or later because they'll ran out of sMerit quickly. Thus the sMerit sales is not a big concern at the moment.

While I might not totally agree with the idea of Merit on the forum now, I wish something like this would have been done previously to get everyone looking for ways to get rid of the scammers and spammers.  Previously, since it really did not affect everyone, no one tried to "police" the forum other than moderators when they had the time.  Now that merit is in place and it affects pretty much everyone trying to build up in the ranks, we have so many people looking and finding scams/spams/etc.  If we could all just collaborate to make this a better forum, everything would work smoother in the long run.

One of the merits of the new system I guess. It will decrease the work load on moderators. However, I think that in few weeks people will stop making so many posts about merit system.

sMerits are not as finite as you think.

As long as Merits keep moving around (being given out by sources), some users will accumulate Merits and hence sMerits as well.
Sure, no single user can expect to consistently be a sMerit seller by this standard, but wouldn't a good deal of users their Merits if offered something?

If sMerit sales continuously lead to negative trust, some things might happen that lead to more secretive trading.
Like how sold accounts often led to negative trust, hence the account name was revealed only to the other party....

I think this is a legitimate concern that we actually need to think about.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

I do understand that sMerit is finite and soon they will run out of sMerit, but what about those who have multiple accounts. They will still manage to abuse the system and it will be hard to track these users, though DTs are doing excellent job.

I think that in few weeks people will stop making so many posts about merit system.

New system is quite simple and it was well explained by theymos in the original post, people are not reading the main thread thoroughly and hence raising unnecessary doubts.

That also applies on account farmers (has multiple accs) since sMerits can only be gained by obtaining merits through constructive posts so unless they're producing one it'll also run out.

Sure they could just spread the merits on their alts but for every 1 merit only half of it will be sendable (sMerits) so it will eventually run out after a few rounds.

Also, Merits are publicly displayed so I don't think it'll be hard to track...

Do you think those merit sources will give merits to undeserving members ? It will start getting accumulated in the hands of serious members which is good for the forum.
