I'm starting a new, free service to the BitcoinTalk community - something that I have had in mind for a while now. If you need web hosting for any kind of project you have in mind, feel free to open up an account with me, free of charge, to save a few dollars on the allocated budget. Illegal content is disallowed, and the service does not come with dedicated support - although I'll be happy to assist you with a critical technical error.

The plan specs are:
2 GB disk space (RAID-10)
20 GB bandwidth
3 email accounts
2 FTP accounts
2 mySQL databases
3 subdomains

Comes with:
cPanel interface + Softaculous
SitePad website builder (for non-coders)

This is scalable if your project requires more resources further down in the road. Scaling up will depend on the required additions, but don't expect any fees close to what the big name brands charge, since this is strictly not for a profit nor will it ever be. This is simply a way to give back and I don't expect anything in return. (The announcement happened to line up after the release of the merit system, but I assure you that this project is not for merit either.)

That's a lot more difficult to offer and you'll see that in the VPS market as well - a lot more rare to see free VPS offers than free hosting. There are tiny NAT VPS servers that are offered for prices around $3-5/year but they don't have much to offer compared to what you probably have in mind.

I currently use loycev.000webhostapp.com to upload data for my Merit data analysis. This has some problems thoug (random 404s for files that exist and FTP connection failures).

What I need is quite simple:
-2 GB disk space should last me quite a while
-20 GB bandwidth should be more than enough, the largest file is currently 21 MB, and I don't expect many people to download it
-1 FTP account

I don't need email, mySQL or even a cPanel. I would even prefer to use it without my own domain name. Can you help me out here?

Maybe Heroku.com would be of use to you? Pretty sure you can accomplish what you want, and for free even, you just need a tiny bit of tech-saviness to follow the right guide

000webhost is pretty terrible (as are most large scale free hosting providers). As long as your needs are met within my specifications, then I'd be more than happy to help you out.

It sure can! It comes with Softaculous, which is an auto installer widget for a number of various software ready to go. Standard issue.
