Hi guys,  I am still pretty new to the world of Crypto but am pretty tech savvy.

I use Jaxx wallet to store my coins and today I used the shapeshift feature to move some coins from BTC to ETH.

I came back a few hours later and noticed both my BTC wallet and my ETC wallet were empty.

I then checked the transaction history and clicked on the "transaction ID" link.
It came up saying a transaction with that hash could not be found.

So i decided to check blockchain.info and search my bitcoin wallet address and it just says 0 transactions, where I know there have been a few transactions just in the last few days (10 transactions)
So I obviously dont understand how that site works haha.

Ok so next I decided to reset the cache for Jaxx on my computer.

Now it says the money is in my BTC wallet again but does not even show the transaction history of that shapeshift, so I figured thats just how it works.

So I was happy that the BTC was back in my account so then decided instead of moving using shapeshift I would just move it out of my Jaxx wallet to an exchange.

I did this, and once again it sent, but straight away says 0 confirmations and it went to block #-1 or something.

I once again reset the cache after about an hour and that transaction is not there again. and it says the money is back in my BTC wallet on Jaxx.

erhhhh.

So now I check it on my android app, and reset the cache on that.

Now my phone that I have 0 BTC and 0 ETC  but when I click on the transaction history, it now shows the transaction details saying received about 5 hours ago, 0 confirmations -  confidence 94.98% -Miner Preference LOW.

Ok I am totally totally confused as to what is going on?
Is my money in a deep dark hole somewhere? why are the devices (even after resetting on Jaxx) showing different things? and what the hell happened with Shapeshift.

This was the first time I had used Shapeshift today, I used it twice . the first time I moved my ETH to BTC, then back again.. it also cost me 1 ETH in the process so I am pretty sure that is NOT the best way to do it!

Sorry for the long winded post, I just wanted to explain it best I could!.

If you need any details, please let me know.

The transaction ID is ef5447554c52a893f1f18c29b88c99390d4ee6680f605ed8796374549965db65

Thank you in advance

Ryan

If block explorers still show a balance to your addresses you should be able to recover fumds by exporting your wallets to a different client.

Thanks for the reply,

my bitcoin address is 1BR91hqk1i2XagGB4baNvcECWEpd86CSkz
but all those explorer sites just say 0 transactions involving this address? but I have had at least 10 transactions go through that address?

I have now read something that Jaxx wallet addresses change all the time? is that correct?
So how would I track it down?

No one has had this problem before?
It looks like it is due to the miners fee being to low?

but all the info I can find is from years ago. how do I fix this please?
am I able to somehow mine this myself since no one else will mine it?

Jaxx wallet did not ever say any warning about this!

Hi!

Got the same problem here but I saw the transaction confirmed on the blockchain.

Before this one, I received 4 transactions on my address but now Jaxx tells me I have another addr!???

So, could Jaxx has changed my receiveing add and/or forget the previous one?

Seems strange to me.

This is normal behaviour for most HD wallets. Address re-use is generally considered to be a "Bad Thing"™... To help with maintaining a level of pseudo-anonymity, you should use a different address for each transaction.

Your wallet will not have forgotten your previous addresses, it just adds new ones. They are all derived from the 12 seed words (Jaxx calls it the "Backup Phrase")... so make sure you have those 12 words written down and stored safely somewhere!

Ok, I got that. Of course, I saved my seeds (1st thing to do  Wink ).

So, if Jaxx hasn't  lost my previous addr it should still be able to receive coins with it, right? In that case, this is the problem, it does not.

Actualy, it's not a big lost in term of money (the coins are coming from a faucet) but it is a big lost of time to me.

Of course, you can always receive into an address. They dont stop existing after you've used them once Wink

Have you tried entering the old address into a block explorer to see what transactions currently exist for it on the blockchain?  If the coins show there, but not in Jaxx... It could just be that Jaxx isn't syncing all the transactions properly (seems to be a common issue, lots of threads about people needing to "Reset the Jaxx Cache" under Settings, sometimes multiple times to get their coins to display correctly in the wallet).

If the transactions don't show on the block explorer, then they don't exist and nothing you do in Jaxx will fix that.

Big thanks to you!

I didn't even think about checking on the blockchain... what a dumb  Grin

But I didn't know about the data reset option. It worked and now I know for the next time.

Thanks again and have a nice day!

My question is even more trivial ..

But Jaxx is a wallet for BTC, ETc and LTC

So if I shapeshift from of those 3 to something else ... Like dash .. where do I see my balance ?

Or are you saying I need to enter my private key on block chain.info to see it? But isn't that private key a BTC private key?

Confused..

It's not trivial.

You don't have an audit trail when Shapeshift is called from within Jaxx.

For this reason I have to advise against this, although granted, it looks like a cool feature of a wallet.
