Members Need to be Better Informed About Merit

I think info on how merit should be used needs to be better publicized.

While it'd relatively easy to notice the new merit score below the avatars, I don't think most users know how they should be using their sMerits. From reading through some Meta posts, it's my understanding that sMerits should be relatively free-flowing and most "non-spam" posts are deserving of at least one Merit, however I don't see that happening very often.

Are there ways to better communicate to the masses what type of posts should be deserving of merit?

If users really don't know about the merit system,and what sMerits are,they shouldn't even be here in this forum. You can't expect theymos or anyone else for that matter to personally PM them about the newly integrated merit system. If people even go to their profile and click the merit hyperlink,they can know about sMerits. And there are so many threads in and out of meta(some jackasses are creating threads trying to "criticize" about the merit system in Alternate Cryptocurrencies board). So if users really want to be adamant ,let them be,they will realize they won't be able to rank up anymore.

When someone join a new forum, they must know what it has, what in where. Meta is section for discussing about our forum, things are announced in Meta section.

Recent days, users tend to focus on creating infographics or new topics about merits and how it operates throughout the forum. The problem is some of them are under-quality, and authors of those topics only created, then let there for other users discussed each other. Part of those questions had been answered so many times in threads of other topics.
I guess, those ones simply and naively think that they can get free sMerits from higher-qualitied users.

I know that I typically go straight to the threads or categories that I'm watching and don't navigate through the home page. I assume that a large number of users never check Meta.

Even the info when you click through to the Merit info page doesn't tell you about how it's really intended to be used. Sure, it briefly describes how Merit works, but I didn't really understand what types of posts should be receiving Merit until I explored some threads. I don't expect everyone to do that, so there should at the very least be a stickied FAQ linked to from the Merit page.

The fact that there are a million threads is more a problem than a benefit. I wouldn't expect people to go sifting through everything. There should be a comprehensive official source that's easy to access.

I think once more people get used to the merit and smerit we will see people using it better or should. I do think everyone is going to have a different take on the way merits are given tho.
Some will see some posts and not deem it to be a meritable post and not quite understand that spending merit is good for the community on a whole.

Making a constructive and quality posting that a respectively and have sense to get a merit same as new member o higher rank needed this agree on terms of new system and rules in this forum to see what you do and other post with knowledge needed or idea to give a merit and what you like crearivity from posters or commenters as a trademark as a good user on this forum to talking great.

We don't need to feed people about how merit works, the thread is here they just need to read it. If they can read the rules of bounty campaign I'm pretty sure they can understand the merit system. This is one of the problem that's why merit system created, people are just focusing on making money which result to a spam. Just post anything that consist of quality information then you will get merit in time.

Agreed - members have a lot of options and Meta isn't necessarily going to be the first place to check for them.

I agree. I've been working on a Newbie introduction/welcome post that will include some 'golden' rules and links to other related stickies so the same old questions don't keep getting asked. Ideally the message should be shown upon sign up or they are linked to the thread so users are forced to read it because many still don't even bother to read stickies.

I'll probably put the info in the Activity Faq thread and make it a Activity/Merit thread since the two are now intertwined.

It seems like most newbies on this forum can't read. It doesn't matter how many stickys they put up, most will never read them.
Just look at any part of this forum and you will see that most threds are about things that they could find in the stickys.
