I've had to make compromises but here's my final list.

Asus Prime Z270-A
Intel G3900 Socket 1151
Ballistix Tactical 4GB DDR4
Revogi smart plug (power monitoring & restart, possibly WiFi bridge?)
PSU 1000W Gold (I know it's only a gold but I reckon it's a good deal)
Western Digital WD Blue 4 To 3,5'' (I wanna try HDD mining)
MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC X2
Risers (ver 008S) X8
Wooden frame

Total: 1301,89 €

ROI looks like shit (200 days) because I'm starting with two cards. If everything goes smoothly, I'll buy 4 more next week.

I welcome comments, although I've already ordered.

P.S. No, I didn't buy a power button, because I'm cheap Cheesy

What's the maximum rating on that smart plug? It may be useless having 6 switchable sockets if it's only rated high enough for 1 or 2 rigs.

You may be better off buying the $30, single-socket ones.

If it powers two rigs, I'm happy.

It's pretty tough to find smart plugs that work well and measure power so I thought I'd try that one. And don't say WeMo, I hate it.

Seems like a good start to me, what cards you expecting in future? you planning to run 8 cards or 9 cards in future?

I agree with HDD option but 4 TB is way too much for mining IMHO.

But I guess 40 GB SSD costs even less price compared to your HDD and its perfectly enough for mining.

What OS you planning to use?

If you have got nVidia cards I would've suggested this community build open source free OS

Any way good luck, hope you pull your RIG up, see you on the other side.

Hopefully, all 580 - 8 GB.
I'm assuming (but my power meter will tell me) my 1000 W is good for 6 cards, depending on what I mine.
For the MoBo to handle 9, I'd have to use mSata adapters or PCIe expansion boards...which I'm too noob to do yet.

I wanted to try HDD mining (burst coin) and 4 TB is the cheapest per byte. We'll soon see 8 TB for under 200€ but that's not the case yet, so...

I'm starting with what I know most, so Windows.
I plan on testing Claymore's and Nicehash legacy to begin with.

The thread is going to become my rig's diary.

First entry, then...I can't believe I didn't find that before I ordered it but there we go: BIOS configuration for the Asus Z270-A.

The store called, they only have one left in stock.

Now pondering whether I should spend hours in the classified searching for RX 580 or switch to 1080 Ti. The nvidia is just about as hard to find but each one represent more profit, so...

I received everything except the frame and risers, so I've been playing with two cards on the X16 slots.

Between Windows freezing, the WiFi not working, one of the cards not beeing recognized, this and that, I can't believe how often I've had to restart the computer. So, if you want to stay sane:

DO BUY AN SSD, PEOPLE!
It's well worth it, just for the restarting time.

You might want to try SimpleminingOS. I find it much more stable than running miners on win10.
Easy to set up, can run it from €10 usb stick, built in drivers and miners.
To consider: must be cable connection (advised anyway), can not mix amd nvda in same rig, $2/month fee (have few days free trial).

Also, I would invest in that power button : )

I
I flashed my first BIOS. Using the 1-click feature of a 1.6.7 Polaris editor.
Hashrate bumped from 22.5 to 28.225.

Now I'm trying to finely thune the settings on this card, I'll do the second one after. I wonder how replicable these will be.
Radeon settings, MSI afterburner and so on remain a bit of a blur for the moment.

I can do WiFi only...

I'll check the Linux distros one day but I wanted to setup windows because
1- I know it
2- Seemed simple to flash a new BIOS etc.

A solid 31.5 with all my card at 2250 MHz memory clock.
(Running two at a time because I'm still expecting my rig frame)

Still using 90-100 W per card, though: the undervolting is temperamental.

Well, do the BIOS mod!

If you increase the memory clock on a stock BIOS, the card will use shitty memory timings, hence the drop in hashrate.

Additionally, you may be able to save some money buying a server psu and soldering on 6pin cables yourself or getting a breakout board and putting 6 pin connectors onto it. Not sure how prices are in Europe, but I've been able to save hundreds of dollars buying server PSUs instead of ATX PSUs, and most of them are rated Gold or Platinum. You'll also be able to attach whatever cables you need onto the PSU, so there'll be less cable issues.

My PSU was 135€ when I bought it, they just bumped the price to 100 more :-D

As for server PSU, I ordered 3 for my next (and last) 12 card rig.

I hope you bought those components at reasonable prices Smiley Todays prices are way too high, but thats ok if you ask me.. Every single boy wants to mine because he thinks that he will get rich in a month..

I paid 5 more for the CPU, the rest was (much) cheaper than today.
