The merit system is not working, look the merit points of people on the forum, it does not move (even for the more relevant posts), the forum established a system which was suppose to penalize newcomers flooding the forum with useless post, but the forum penalize itself, good luck everybody, If you think people will give you merit points for free you are mistaken.
It is too early to tell if the merit system has failed. But in my point of view, this merit system has improved the kind of post that we are seeing now but not all though. The main purpose of this, is to eliminate post that are not helpful to the forum. I try not to use low quality post because we have no criteria how to distinguish one.

I propose to disable signatures for Jr. Members or implement Merit system for Jr. ranks (5 Merits for example).
Signatures had already been disabled for Jr members. Signature campaigns like 777 coin has removed all such participants already.

I see newbies and Jr. Members wearing signatures at least here in the Meta. You can see the OP of this topic as reference. I guess theymos removed the ability to add links to the signature but not the whole signatures.

We all need to wait, and give the new system some time to settle in. Yes it is frustrating to make what you think are quality posts, but get no merit. I myself have not earned any beyond what I was originally assigned - although this may just mean that my posts are poor quality If the system doesn't work as intended, then I'm sure that it will be revised. In general, merit is a great idea, it may or may not need tweaking as time goes on, but we must learn to live with it and try to raise our post quality. If after a few months people have zero merit and can point to a catalogue of evidence of quality posts, then that is better than just complaining after a couple of days, with no evidence. Also please could this thread be moved to the 'meta' area of the forum? It shouldn't be under the alts section. I think so. I think we need more time, merit system is basically very good for the forum. I just wait for the result, for now we better to be quite and try to master this change. Too early judgement for this new system. We should have patience. The system is still new and people need time to accepting and to use it.

I also think that the merit system is not working as it was supposed to do. Merit system came to develop our knowledge about information linked with different crypto currency. But unfortunately there are some people who use to sell merit. They offer you 100 merit at .1 BTC or many. (This information may not be true as I heard it. But I suppose that merit is being sold or else some low post also got merited). So, I suppose the main objective of merit had not full filled.

The merit system needs some improvements, and Iì'm pretty sure that there will be soon some modifications. But it has already achieved some big results, because shitposting has drastically diminished, and there is no more sense in having tens of accounts. So, it's a very good think, even if I know that to grow up will be very difficult. But also more precious.

Nobody is happy with the merit system, out of Legendaries, because now you need to work hard to earn the right to rank up. But it was absolutely necessary, and now the forum is a better place. With some improvement (I think that the circulating merits are too few) it will achieve the goal.

I think that this is a test run so far. I really like this ranking system. There will be less spam and flooding on the forum. It will be much easier to find the information you need. But unfortunately, the beginning is not very successful. The system of awards will need to be reviewed. We need to wait for a while. I am confident that in the future everything will be ok.

The merit system have not failed. I feel if you make a quality post that solves someone problem merit may be given to you. Just make sure you work hard and obey the forum rules.

Yeah this will solve part of the problem, 5 Merit and no sMerit for the existing jr. because they will distribute the Merit to the other alts. Probably de-merit option in the hands of the merit sources will also be a good solution, so they can give penalties to the ones abusing the system. In addition, less work for the Mods and Admins I do not think that there is a need of demerit option. We are making conclusion just in one month but the merit system is designed in a very efficient way. With time passing by the default merit points will dry up. Then all the merits will originate from merit sources and thus there will be negligible chances of merits getting abused. Adding a demerit option will cause a lot of conclusions with signature campaigns as well. Adding and then removing applicants based on current merits/ranks will become a headache for the campaign manager.

When something is implemented or changed to the systematic form initially some issues will be arising. One such is the recent merit trading for the purpose of getting into signature campaign. Now, those users getting tagged will let the rest of the users understand the tragedy behind such activity.

I really think this merit system do not benefit the forum!
I'm not seeing less spam. I still see a bunch of crappy posts!
This only affect the new comers that get demotivated because they can’t rank up and see crappy post from legendary being merited.
And the new threads "submit here your posts for my evaluation". This is not the goal! People should give merit because the posts deserve, not because someone asks! This kind of threads should be banned! If you want to share your sMerit give it to posts that you read and thought useful, not to the ones who come and ask for it. And the people that open this threads are the ones who receive more Merit!!!!! In my opinion they are killing merit system.
I have been paying some attention, because I'm about to "not" rank up due to lack of merit, and in the topics that I read (most altcoins) I do not see merit to anyone... The section where you see more merit is Meta! Is this the section with good cryptocurrency posts?? I think not!
I usually write good posts, but people do not care to give merit to others! I need 150 merit points and I do not know where I will get them!
I think I am valuable to the community! I write some posts on Steemit and usually place the links on the related topics. I help people whenever I can and know how to. I report SPAM and SCAMERS. I share with the community the news, new good Airdrops, new crypto related projects. I give me opinion in speculation threads.
And with all this I only got 2 merit points since the system is implemented!

I get your point but still too early to give a conclusion like that, Merit System implemented just a few months from now so don't expect to see instant results. I understand if you think that rankings of all the members here in this forum seems stagnant because I already think that way but can't you see? This system provides solution against shitposting and for me that's great. Instead of focusing to the bad side of this system, try to look what benefits it could bring to us. Also, don't feel agitated, just stay calm and strive hard to adapt this system.

5 merits for ranking up to Junior member is easy requirement, so I think your idea doesn't make sense. There are two ways to get merits. One legal way is getting them from writing constructive, high quality posts/ topics, try to help as many other users (mostly newcomers) as possible. This is legal approach, and with this one I really think that 5 merits is possible task (might be reached easily with real constructive users). Second illegal approach is buying merits from others or exchanging them with friends, etc. In the approach 5 merits mean nothing, and need seconds to get them. As a result of those two reasons, I think that Theymos should ban ability to wear signature for Junior Members.

I understand what you are saying. I didn't even know that the merit-system was linked on moving up on rank, I just assumed it was to reward users for quality posts. Maybe that's how it should be? If you for example see a post by a Legendary Member with the minimal amount of merit, that should mean that this person puts up low quality posts... On the other hand, when you see a post by a Legendary Member that has lots of merit, you should conclude that this person only posts high quality content... The problem with this is, that you seem to be 'around' people that already have lots of merit that they can give, right? If you post high quality content but everyone who appreciates it, isn't able to give you merit for it, is misleadingly seems that you post low quality stuff... Or do I misinterpret? Apart from the whole merit thing, when learning (the hard way by getting banned ) about the rules on bitcointalk, I tried to post good content and not just 'why this coin so low' or 'when bountie dev pls'. I consider bitcointalk, next to the websites & social media channels that are cryptorelated a big source of valuable information but yes, there is a lot of crap on here. The difficulty is how to seperate crap from the real stuff and the merit-system is an effort to do this, but in my opinion only succeeds 50 percent, since a lot of people try to work on making bitcointalk a better place & they don't get the merit. Or am I missing something here?

I just pointed out that in a lot of threads there aren't any forum-members eligible to even give merit, so the system isn't really encouraging everybody to make good posts. I don't care about rank, I care about quality.

For the time being, we can only say that we have not succeeded, but we can not say that we failed. After all, we still have a lot of spam restrictions. Just do not know how long such repression can last.

I like the merit system, so it is not true to say tht nobody like it. It needs a bit of fine tuning, but no doubt that will come in the future. btw - did you notice that I gave you a merit for your post on the economics board.

Hopefully once we get rid of the bulk of the spammers, their repression of the decent members will be ameliorated.
