Let’s assume a Buttercoin (BC) exchange is deployed in every country across the globe, as envisaged by the BC powers that be. What’s the advantage/disadvantage of the proliferation of exchanges?

So long as there is a universal order book, the more exchanges the more robust the system.

This is something we desperately need deployed now!

Just reading through the project goals. https://buttercoin.hackpad.com/FAQ-QTRSMzlkLD6 It is very ambitious. Can anyone comment on what it would take (aside from the investments already mentioned) make make something like this take off?

For those not aware of buttercoin, here is a link.

http://buttercoin.net/

This has the potential to be BIG.  As mentioned earlier, Google ventures is investing in them.  I suggest people read up about their potential.  One other note, buttercoin is just their project name.  They have not yet come up with their official name yet.  More info can be found on their FAQ.

https://buttercoin.hackpad.com/FAQ-QTRSMzlkLD6

LetsTalkBitcoins podcast also did an interview with buttercoin CEO a few episodes back.

It is an open source project, not commercial.  I am unaware if you could financial gain from it.  Possibly if you open a node in your local area.  Its meant to benefit the community.
