Ethereum is not the only coin that has smart contract and dApp support, but it is often used as it is the largest one out there. It doesn't necessarily have to be the most technological invocation that will survive this ICO bursting which might happen. You put it good the difference between billions and trillions with both of them. But you forgot to state that crypto is on global scale and it is easier to enter. You had to live in America and not many people were even aware of dot-com at a time, here you have it on global scale with internet + anybody can invest if they want to.

If we look at ICOs today most of them are even dumping the point they get listed on exchanges and this is probably done by first investors who gets huge discounts at pre-ICO. Plus not all countries are allowed for some ICOs as some are restricted from taking part in due to regulative reasons.
